Sowcarpet is Chennai's most famous food street and one of the greatest places to eat in India. Traders from across the country settled here generations ago and brought their food traditions with them. The result is a single street where you can eat Murukku sandwich, a uniquely Chennai invention, then Lassi made by a former wrestler, then freshly fried Jalebi from a stall serving the neighbourhood for decades.
This guided street food walk takes you through Sowcarpet for two hours with a food evangelist who knows every stall and every story. You will taste signature dishes from legendary local stalls, walk through frenetic lanes brimming with spices, flowers and colour, and eat the way Chennai actually eats rather than the way tourists are usually fed.

5.00One of the all time great walking tours. Epic food stops and delightful conversation from the guide Neeshanth to accompany the local delicacies.highly reccomend to anyone visiting Chennai, no way you are going to get that sort of food experience flying solo! Nandri legends!

5.00An amazing trip around the bustling Sowcarpet area with great food and interesting guide, Neesanth. Be prepared to have all your senses assaulted with the noises, traffic (people, vehicles and cows) and wonderful vegetarian food. We were so full by the end, we barely fit in the taxi home.

5.00Had a fantastic tour with Neeshanth. Informative not only on the local cuisine in southern India but the local traditions. For a couple of Aussies the intensity of Sowcarpet was exhilarating and the variety of street foods tasted were a delight and plentiful. Very different to our previous experiences of northern Indian cuisine. Can highly recommend this tour.

5.00A really fabulous insight into the food of southern India. Our guide Neeshanth was a charming host who was eager to please. He made sure that we were comfortable and well informed the entire time. Sowcarpet is an interesting local area to explore and a busting environment in which to familiarise yourself with the food. I’d highly recommend this tour when visiting Chennai.

5.00This is a great introduction to food in the South. As we have travelled to Rajastan before, we thought we were familiar with the food, but it really is very different here in the South. It is a really busy area so you also get immersed in the daily life, so be prepared for the hustle and bustle. We couldn’t speak highly enough of Neesanth, our guide. A lovely young man who was full of information but down to earth and interesting & knowledgeable. He was sure to ensure we were comfortable and happy at all times. A tour to remember!!

5.00Janaith was a great guide! Learned a lot about the food and history about the area. Was grateful to have a knowledgeable guide to take me, not just to sample some of the great food, but also to take me to the BEST spot in Sowcarpet for that dish. Had a great time. Would recommend.

5.00I enjoyed my tour with Jainath. I scheduled in the evening and ended up being the only person so it was a nice private tour. We tried 7-8 different food/drink varieties and enjoyed our walk around Sowcarpet area. He explained the history of the area, pointed out some of the temples and notable buildings, and explained the layouts of all the shopping/market streets in the area. Would recommend!
