Our visit to Delhi included some specific goals - getting clothing made and tailored - and visiting a variety of places that would provide a good introduction to the city’s history. We could not have accomplished this in two days without a skilled guide. We could not have enjoyed it so much without a guide who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, smart and funny. Her name is Shikha. We had been told to go to a district of high-end clothing shops, and Shikha guided us through them. Their clothing was expensive but ill-fitting (I am tall) and they could not tailor them soon enough. Shikha suggested a clothing maker that made custom-fit Indian clothing overnight. We went there and found exactly what we wanted, ordered it , and it was finished the next day, beautifully tailored. Shikha helped us with insightful style and color recommendations. On our second day, Shikha planned a tour of a variety of historic places, and a walk through old Delhi - an experience I’ll not forget. She knew how to keep our little group together through the bustle of the crowds, and we stopped at several places that were exactly what we wanted to visit. Then Shikha took us to a delightful dinner at a restaurant we never would have found on our own. Delhi is an amazing, complex city, with an even more complex history. I can’t imagine touring it without a knowledgeable, smart, engaging guide like Shikha.
