Named "the Thailand of Albania", Shala River is definitely one of the most beautiful destinations of Albania. Reachable only by boat and surrounded by mountains, this river is a perfect getaway for those who want to get rid of the mobile connection. The source of this river is in the Albanian Alps.

What To Expect

Tirana

We will pick you up from your accommodation in Tirana (for Durres, Golem, Lezha and Shkodra there is a meeting point). Relax in a comfortable van for a 2 hours drive until our first stop for coffee, snacks, stretching your legs, and free toilets. Since it’s an early start, you can also take a nap during this part of the ride. To keep it peaceful, the guide will only share a short itinerary until after the break.

It’s about another 1.5 hours of driving. During this part, your guide will share interesting information about Albania, the area, and the tour itself while you enjoy the mountain and lake scenery. Please note that part of the road is under construction and can be a bit bumpy. After around 4 hours in total, you will reach the Komani Lake dam. Following the guide’s instructions, you’ll walk through a 7-minute tunnel to reach the boat. Enjoy a 1-hour boat ride across Komani Lake with stunning views of mountains, greenery, and crystal-clear waters—a perfect time for photos!

Nice experience! The bus ride is a bit long, but it is worth it when you see the amazing views the Lake Komani has to offer! Our guide Vilson was great! He made sure we had the best experience possible. Thank you!

We had a really great trip to the Koman River and Shala River. The entire organization was excellent and everything ran smoothly. The landscape is simply breathtaking and the boat ride through the mountains was an absolute highlight. Special praise goes to our guide Vilson. He was very friendly, helpful, and enriched the day with his good mood. Additionally, he took great photos of us and even taught us some Albanian words, which made the trip even more authentic and interesting. The driver also did a very good job, and we felt safe throughout the entire ride. The only small criticism concerns the legroom on the bus. For taller people, it can get a bit cramped on the longer ride. However, this hardly affected our overall impression. Overall, a beautiful trip that we would recommend at any time. It is a very beautiful excursion. You sail in a boat with twelve people for an hour through a dam, until you reach the Shala River. The landscape is stunning, the water is clear, and the mountains are green. It is an idyllic place. We took a short walk up the mountain, lasting about fifteen minutes. The journey there is a bit long, but it is well worth it. Highly recommended.
