Riding the Icelandic horse is a must-do at least once during your visit. It connects you to Icelandic history and allows you to experience the most authentic travel method there is in Iceland. The Lava tour is a more popular and ideal adventure for beginners as well as experienced riders. During the tour you will ride in beautiful landscapes through lava fields, green hillsides and enjoy a mountain view. For 1.5 to 2 hours, or 4 hours with transfer, your tour offers you a relaxing coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Included are riding helmets, rubber boots, rain wear, or warm outfit for your ride.

We did a 2 hour tour with pick-up directly from our hotel in Reykjavik. The driver arrived right on time in a nice bus. The facilities were very nice and before the tour started we got to meet the many horses that were eager to see us at the fence line. We were all pulling up grass and feeding them - they were so friendly. We then walked into the paddock and they assigned us horses. We are all beginners and had no issues with any of the horses - they were so easy to ride. After about 15 minutes of riding, they split the group into those who wanted to continue with a slower walk and those who wanted to go faster. My son went with the faster group and loved it even though he was a beginner. They allowed "adventurous beginners" to go on the faster ride. The landscape was beautiful and we all enjoyed the ride. There were multiple guides who checked in frequently with us to make sure we were good during the ride. After we got back to the paddock, we wanted a family picture and they were nice enough to let us wait on our horses for my son to return and then took many excellent pictures of the four of us.

It was a lovely. Icelandic horses are fabulous. The guides were knowledgeable and safety oriented. This came into play when my husband's horse tripped. Both my husband and the horse were cared for well.

Lovely day spent on a friendly Icelandic horse. When I asked about being able to have the horse do its special gait, the guides arranged for anyone who wanted to go a bit faster to head off on another trail ending up on a rise with a view of lava fields and volcano in background. The guide was very knowledgeable and told us about the area. Def a good deal.

Awesome horseback riding adventure thru lava fields and seeing highest peak on Iceland. Icelandic horses are gentle natured and fun to ride. Great guides took pictures of us riding with our own cameras. Highly recommend. We had children ride as well, and experienced riders can break off for a change of gait.

It was a fun experience. The staff were very nice and helpful. Riding around the trails was beautiful. It was a windy day, but the horses didn’t mind. It was rainy off and on and rain gear was provided. Coffee/tea/hot cocoa were available before and after the ride. The best part was that riders could choose between a slower ride or a faster ride. I have experienced many trail rides in the past and have never had the option to go faster. In the faster group we trotted and cantered at times. It was so exciting to have that option. This outfit was very professional and is highly recommended.

It was okay experience, the staff wasn’t too friendly and the path is not pretty. We have booked a different one this time and it was like a day and night experience.

It was stunning. Very pleasant reception, an introduction that focused on the essentials and was easy to remember. Very individualized support. Many insights into equestrian sports and Icelanders, especially from our guides, who showed that even though they do this daily, they still have a lot of fun introducing novices and interested individuals to this sport. We had great weather and were so moved by this experience that we could hardly get ourselves to leave afterward. This was on the day of our departure from Iceland and was the "highlight" and a wonderful conclusion to this unique vacation. Highly recommended.

We had a brilliant experience today, my sister, mom (80 years now) and me! Loki was kind and responsive, and it was fun that we were divided into two groups, so Mom was confident on the step group because I got a little tickled. Informative fim before the ride pg we felt safe!
