What To Expect
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Antigua to the base of Pacaya Volcano, one of Guatemala’s most accessible active volcanoes. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your local guide and begin the hike through forest trails, volcanic rock, and ash-covered paths at a pace that feels comfortable for your group. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of nearby volcanoes, learn about Pacaya’s volcanic activity, and walk across solidified lava fields from previous eruptions. While red lava is not currently visible, you may observe steam vents and geothermal heat depending on volcanic conditions. Since this is a private experience, the pace is more flexible than larger group tours, allowing extra time for photos, short breaks, and enjoying the landscape. On some departures, travelers may also choose to stop at the famous Pizza Pacaya area, where pizzas are prepared using volcanic heat (optional and arranged directly with the local provider). Morning departures are generally recommended during the rainy season for clearer weather conditions.

5.00Very nice experience at Pacaya. The guide was kind and attentive throughout the tour, explaining interesting details about the volcano. The hike was tiring but totally worth it for the views and the experience. We added the pizza, and it was something different and fun. Recommended if you want to do something special in Guatemala.
