What To Expect
Chinese Fishing Nets
These huge cantilevered fishing nets are the legacy of one of the first visitors to the Malabar Coast. Erected here between 1350 and 1450 AD by traders from the court of Kublai Khan, these nets are set up on teak wood and bamboo poles. The best place to watch the nets being lowered into the sea and catch being brought in is the Vasco da Gama Square, a narrow promenade that runs along the beach. The Square is an ideal place to idle, with stalls serving fresh delicious seafood, tender coconut etc.
Jew Town
The Maharaja of Travancore and Cochin gave shelter to the Jewish community here after the Moorish Arabs attacked them in 1524 due to their trade monopoly. They were given an area right opposite the Maharajah’s palace, which subsequently became known as Jew Town. It was here, at the end of a narrow cobbled road that they built the Pardesi synagogue in 1568.

5.00Wonderful experience. Mortin wrote an itinerary before, but customized and also covered more than promised. He is du to be with, reliable - and a plant lover, which was a special extra. He offered also a few stops in stores he knew if you wanted, but did not insist on any. His tuktuk was clean and nicely equipped. We will come back.

5.00We booked an auto with Salim sir in Fort Kochi for 3 days to show us around the city. I had the best time. He was super knowledgeable and took us to a lot of places in 3 days. Not just that, he was very informative and an amazing storyteller. He told us the history of the place and kept telling us the significance of everything along the way which made our trip even more enjoyable. I will definitely recommend booking auto tour with Salim sir to everyone who’s planing to come to Fort Kochi.

5.00An absolute pleasure to have had Joseph as our guide! What he didn’t know about the history of Kochi isn’t worth knowing. It was an excellent experience from start to finish; we cannot recommend him enough. We visited churches, temples, palaces, beaches……. Everywhere we went Joseph had a story and regaled the history of his subject. We even had a stop for a much needed lassi to refresh us in the heat! Thanks

5.00Joseph has a unique and fascinating combination of historical facts, local knowledge plus insights into the current economic challenges and ore Museumpolitical scene of Fort Cochi and Kerala. We thoroughly enjoyed his half day tour and fell in love with Fort Cochi. We also took Joseph’s advice, on another day, to visit the Folklore Museum - it was fascinating! He also included a surprise visit to a Hindu procession, which was really colourful and fun! Joseph is a saint! 😇
