On this thrilling day excursion, you'll have the opportunity to discover the naturally occurring ice caves and ice tunnels within a picturesque outlet glacier.
These ice caves become accessible for exploration when the meltwater beneath the glacier freezes or diverts, leaving behind these remarkable ice tunnels.
As your guide leads you across the icy terrain during your glacier hike, you'll gain insights into the formation of these ice features. Inside the ice caves, you'll have ample time to capture photographs of the awe-inspiring surroundings. The mesmerizing blend of melting ice, vibrant blue hues, and the serene ambiance within the cave contributes to the glacier's remarkable appeal.
Following your exploration of the ice cave. Your guide will then accompany you through the ever-changing glacial landscape, including its crevasses. The journey culminates with a captivating view of a lowland, sandy beach by the distant Atlantic Ocean.

What To Expect
Upon arriving in Skaftafell within Vatnajokull National Park, you'll be greeted by your expert certified glacier guide. From there a bus will take you to the glacier. You'll be provided with essential glacier equipment, such as ice axes, ice spikes, and helmets, with your experienced guide leading you to the naturally formed ice cave.

5.00Helgee our guide was very passionate and knowledgeable! The ice caves were beautiful. Please be warned the nature of ice caves is that they constantly melt and change. As a result the caves are not a short jeep drive or guaranteed to be 10 feet tall like in the photo. These guides work their ass off in dangerous conditions to find and create an ice tunnel experience, so going in with that knowledge helps you appreciate it more.

4.00If you’re looking for a simple, non-strenuous way to experience the beauty of a glacier, this tour is perfect. It’s an easy and scenic adventure that anyone can enjoy. Personally, I prefer more challenging, high-adrenaline activities, so I found it a little tame—but it was still a fantastic day out and worth doing for the incredible views.

5.00Angelika was a wonderful guide, very friendly and knowledgeable, we were lucky to be in a small group so just chatted the whole way round. She was clearly very well trained and highly competent on the ice, giving us really good advice on technique and keeping us safe in a hazardous environment.

5.00Trust the crampons, they will work. Lovely trip to the ice cave our tour guid was great and gave us lots of additional information about the cave and surrounding areas along the way. Cave was smaller than I thought but time of year and temperature will define the cave’s appearance and size.

5.00Our Tour Guide was Brook. He was very professional and we felt very save the entire trip on the glacier and in the cave. He gave many useful instructions and informations at the right time. Overall, it was a wonderful experience we will remember for a long time and one of hour highlights in iceland.

5.00We did the excursion and it was amazing, great experience and all thanks to Brook, our guide, all the time watching the group and giving some great explanations. The route is not easy but also not very difficult, if you have a good physical condition you can do it without problems.
