Your guide will discuss how they are all interconnected, what is being done to protect these wild animals, and what impact you can do to help the incredible endangered gray bat. We throw in a little history of the Tennessee River and how it became what it looks like today. With a grand finale of watching 100,00 gray bats leave the cave at sunset.

What To Expect
THIS TRIP RUNS ON EASTERN TIME. Join Chattanooga Guided Adventures to see endangered gray bats begin their nightly hunt for insects! The Nickajack Bat Cave and Wildlife Refuge in the Tennessee River is the summer roost for up to 100,000 of these animals. These tours run from late April to early October. Enjoy a 3-mile paddle around Nickajack Lake to the cave entrance during which you may be lucky enough to observe such local treats as osprey and bald eagles. Take in the thrill as thousands of bats leave the cave at dusk. Reflect with your new friends about the dangers white-nose syndrome poses to the bat population and its impact on the ecology of other species in the area. Bring your binoculars and enjoy the sights on this bat cave kayak tour. This trip is a fun way to meet new friends or get your old friends off of the couch to try something new. 5.00We had a wonderful kayak tour to the bat caves with Guy and Sam on 14th June. The guides were fantastic, the group was pleasant, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing while still being a lot of fun. Guy showed us much more than just the bats emerging from the cave. His knowledge of nature is extensive, and he shares it in a very engaging and easy-to-understand way. He is a great storyteller, and it was a pleasure listening to him throughout the tour. It was a truly memorable evening filled with atmosphere and beautiful moments. Thank you for such a great experience!

5.00Absolutely amazing experience kayaking and seeing the bats fly out of the cave. Both Brandon and Guy were awesome guides, sharing information not only about the bats, but other birds and wildlife on the lake. I had never kayaked before, and they put me at ease. Would highly recommend!

5.00The tour and guides were wonderful! They were very knowledgeable about the area in general, along with the wildlife. We saw Ospreys, a bald eagle, a variety of birds, and lots of bats! One thing to note - you do not go inside the cave, but you have a great view of them leaving the cave! Overall, a wonderful time and would definitely come back for another tour!
