Step into history as your guide leads you through the National MarTa Archaeological Museum of Taranto, home to extraordinary collections of ancient art. The rooms host monumental tombs, soft stone carvings, necropolis pottery, and dazzling gold artifacts, showcasing the richness of past civilizations.
Begin the tour in galleries dedicated to marble sculptures from the Hellenistic period. Continue to sections with sculptures, mosaics, and inscriptions from public & private buildings. Admire the Carparo stone heads of the Roman era. Explore the pottery exhibit, featuring works from the Necropolis—pink clay vases with black figures depicting mythological and athletic scenes.
The highlight of the museum is the Ori of Taranto (Golds of Taranto) room, containing Greek-crafted gold objects, including the diadem & silver case of Princess Opaka Sabaleidas from Canosa. Really an amazing collection of Greek, Spartan and Roman artifacts and statues. Very impressive from the first prehistoric utensils to beautiful statues, jewelry and utensils such as oil jugs, bowls in glass and ceramics. Really very rewarding

Beautiful objects are displayed throughout the rooms both in daily life and in festive life. Beautiful ornaments, jewelry. It really deserves to be addressed. With children, target rooms, objects because this museum is large, vast. Very well maintained, clear site

Very rich museum. The collections are well highlighted in superb display cases. The visit is a bit spoiled by the multitude of extremely noisy school groups whose guides only know how to yell their explanations... when you have the audio guide, it is difficult to hear. It is still a visit to do....maybe during the Italian school holidays.

A truly beautiful and interesting museum, the building has been completely renovated so inside and modern the highlights are: the Golds of Taranto, the Tomb of the Athlete, the Venuses of Parabita, the Zeus of Ugento and much more. A compliment also to the Guide very prepared.

One of the best museums we have ever been to, this includes The British Museum in London, every item is very well displayed and the artefacts are almost perfect condition after 3000 years!

Very nice collection, interesting. Many Roman and Greek exhibits. Better and more detailed explanations at the exhibits would be good. Duration around 1-2 hours, well done in the midday heat, as nice and cool inside.

In my opinion one of the most beautiful museums we have in Italy. We took audio guide having a small child and not being able to do guided tour, but it is very intuitive to use and our older daughter was able to follow everything. Very nice also the interactive stations
