As the audio guides play commentary based on your gps location, you can create your own itinerary along the tour route(s) to match your interests and schedule. Or you can use our trip planners for our suggestions on half, full or multi day itineraries. Some of the many highlights are listed below;
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
The most famous and recognizable memorial celebrating the nationhood of the USA must be the 4 presidential faces that look out from Mount Rushmore. Though you will have seen it many times depicted on TV, movies and photos, there is no equivalent to seeing it with your own eyes and feeling the scale and depth of the sculpture.

He shares some interesting information, but not easy to figure out how to pick up the route. If you’re not starting at his recommended start points it’s difficult to use. I ended up using AI to figure the best route.

Very interesting and well-narrated trip to Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. At Crazy Horse, be sure to take the shuttle to get closer to the base of the sculpture. We found Crazy Horse to be one of those rare experiences where we didn't know exactly what to expect, but found the visit to be surprisingly rewarding. At Mount Rushmore, we got great photos. But, as we took our last photo, a cloud moved in and obscured the whole sculpture. We found that "obscurance by cloud" is a common experience.

This tour was excellent. I learned so much history about the area, about all the many animals and even the geology of the area. I even chose to go a longer route to my destination at one point just so I didn’t miss anything. The directions for the upcoming overlooks and hikes were spot on. I didn’t need my GPS while listening. Highly recommend and look forward to using it again when visiting my next park.

We were happy we purchased the tour. We liked the narratives; and the GPS was pretty good at navigating us through unfamiliar territory. However, when we encountered a road on the route that was closed for construction, things turned bad quickly. The app “ghosted” us, and suddenly we were on our own! It would have been very helpful if the GPS in the app could have recalculated the route, but didn’t. It stayed completely silent, and we limped our way back to familiar territory. Our phone’s regular GPS got us back eventually, but of course couldn’t get us back on course for our guided tour. And that was exhausting. I could not find any “Help” topic on the app that addressed road closures and alternate routes. BTW, we did not download the tour, we stayed online the whole time.

What we covered went very well. We had to cut our trip short due to my husband's health. What we saw was wonderful.

This was the best money we spent on the trip. It was like having a friendly, helpful tour guide in the car with us. He gave us the background and details of what we were seeing. As he knew where we were and even our direction of travel, he could advise us of the best routes and what to expect ahead. In the lulls between sites he could tell us more about the sites and surroundings. Without it we would have been fumbling around with maps and brochures trying to figure out where to go, when to go and the details of what we were seeing. We would highly recommend the Guide Along Self-Guided tour to anyone doing a road trip and will definitely be checking them out on future trips.
