Djúpalónssandur is another gorgeous black beach, where the air is filled with the sounds of birds circling the cliffs and the ocean waves hitting the sand. At Djúpalónssandur, you’ll find a curiosity on the beach: four large, smooth stones. They are “lifting stones,” used to measure the strength of fishermen who once worked and lived all along the coasts here. The biggest one is called Fullsterkur (“Full-Strength”) and weighs 154 kg (340 lbs). Be sure to lift with your knees so you don’t hurt your back on this one! The second one is called Hálfsterkur (“Half-Strength”) and weighs 100 kg (220 lbs). The third one is called Hálfdrættingur (“Weakling”) and weighs 54 kg (119 lbs). Last, you were the shame of your village if you can only lift Amlóði (“Useless”), at 23 kg (50 lbs). If a fisherman wanted to earn a spot on the fishing boat, he had to be able to lift the “Hálfdrættingur” stone – anything less, and they were not acceptable. Try your strength! Are you ready to join the boats?

Day 7

(Optional) The Golden Circle & Kerid Volcanic Crater

1

Thingvellir National Park

Þingvellir National Park is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Icelandic mainland. The reasons for its popularity are twofold. Firstly, it has a fascinating history, being the original site of what has become the world’s longest-running, ongoing parliament; early settlers to Iceland first convened here in 930 AD. Secondly, it has spectacular geology; the park sits right in the rift valley between two tectonic plates, both of which are clearly visible as you travel through the sweeping lava fields of the Almannagjá gorge.

45 minutes • Admission Included
2

Geysir

Following Þingvellir, you will head to see the geysers in geothermal hot-spot area Haukadalur Valley. • A Well-Rounded Icelandic Adventure with an Amazing Guide

    rebeccalJ2615WQ,Jun 20, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    5.00

Our Ring Road tour with NiceTravel was definitely one for the books! The landscape in Iceland is incredible and the waterfalls we got to see throughout our itinerary were breathtaking! Our trip would not be complete, though, without our AMAZING tour guide, Þorey, who truly took our experience on this tour to the next level! She is natively Icelandic and her humor, many years of experience tour guiding, and compassion for her travelers really shined through during our time with her. She is extremely passionate about sharing her home country with others and brought so many countless personal touches to our tour - from sharing her recommendations for local snacks/sweets to thoughtfully picking out our tasty lunch time restaurants to sharing about her family and experiences growing up in Iceland - she helped bring Iceland alive for us in our short time visiting. Additionally, we want to thank Þorey for going above and beyond to help our party get the care we needed when some health issues arose during our trip. We were so thankful to have her helping us navigate our situation, especially in a foreign country. Þórey is a one-of-a-kind, top-notch guide and anyone would be so lucky to have her as their guide while in Iceland! Logistically, our small group of 19 was the perfect size to get to know one another during our extended time together and then also to not feel like too much of a tourist going around in a big bus. The small bus we had was clean and comfortable for our needs and the hotel accommodations we stayed at provided us with a comfortable night’s rest and a filling breakfast to start our days. Overall, NiceTravel has perfectly curated a well-rounded Icelandic adventure that everyone should get to experience and we would wholeheartedly book with them again when we are back next!

  • Our Nicelandic experience...

    876ramc,Jun 10, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    5.00

We had a great experience with Nice Travel on their 7 day tour. We were lucky to have Thorey as our guide for the ring road segment of the drive. Thorey gives great context on history & culture of the land as well as the geology and is excellent at finding (and planning) great places to eat. Also, the musical selection deserves a special mention and we found a few favorite groups during the journey. Henrik and Filip were the driver/guides on the 3 day segment parts of the loop and were very good. Last but not least, the interactions with the company is excellent and every one is very responsive and helpful.

  • Highly recommend!

Everything is well-organized. The guide is very knowlegeable and with a good sense of humour! I like that the company uses mini-buses (not the large buses) which gives a feeling of closeness and family atmosphere

  • Excellent Iceland tour with outstanding guides, great itinerary, comfort, and seamless organization

    Monique B,Mar 20, 2026

    - Review from Tripadvisor

I had an excellent experience with Nice Travel and highly recommend them. The guides — Cristina, Kristoff, and Mika — were outstanding: professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. Mika deserves special recognition for his exceptional driving skills in challenging weather conditions, which made us feel very safe. Cristina stood out for her clear and direct communication via WhatsApp, which added a great sense of organization and security. Kristoff made the journey even more enjoyable with his relaxed and engaging storytelling, bringing lightness and humor to the experience. The office team was also excellent, with fast, efficient, and kind communication via email before, during, and after the tour. Everything was very well organized: comfortable and well-located hotels, an excellent itinerary, and a very comfortable bus. As a suggestion, I recommend formalizing WhatsApp as an official communication channel, as it proved extremely helpful during the trip. Overall, a fantastic experience — thank you to the Nice Travel team!
