What To Expect

1

Miho Seacoast (Miho no Matsubara Beach)

Miho-no-Matsubara has long been known as a fantastic spot from which to view Mt. Fuji, and has even been featured in traditional Japanese ukiyo-e paintings. There are approximately 30,000 pine trees on the 7km coastline, and the sight of Mt. Fuji beyond them is one that has represented Japan over the ages. When Mt. Fuji was registered as a World Heritage Site, Miho-no-Matsubara was included as a component. On the coast there you can also find Hagoromo no Matsu, a pine tree that is said to have been visited by an angel.

Kunozan Toshogu Shrine

Kunozan Toshogu is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who unified Japan after it had been divided by war for centuries and established the Edo Shogunate about 400 years ago. The shrine is on the 216m-high Mt. Kuno in Nihondaira, and the recommended way to get there is by ropeway gondola from Nihondaira. There, you can witness a view of Suruga Bay and all the way to Izu Peninsula from the precincts. Once you've finished paying your respects at the shrine and enjoying the buildings with their richly colored decorations, be sure to stop in the Kunozan Toshogu Museum where you can see various treasures related to the Tokugawa family, such as armor and helmets. Entrance fee to shrine building: 500 JPY/adult, 200 JPY/elementary school and junior high school student; entrance fee to museum: 400 JPY/adult, 150 JPY/elementary school and junior high school student ※Joint ticket for shrine building and museum: 800 JPY/adult, 300 JPY/elementary school and junior high school student

  • My. Fuji & Shizuoka tour

Grace was excellent and someone we would gladly recommend to others. From the very beginning, she was responsive, helpful, and offered thoughtful suggestions as we planned our day. She took the time to understand our family's interests and coordinated a tour that felt personal rather than scripted. Some of our favorite moments included visiting the Dentist House and the beautiful temple, both of which gave us a deeper appreciation for the area. One of the highlights was stopping at a small tea shop, where the family welcomed us so warmly that we felt less like customers and more like guests in their home. Thank you, Grace, for helping create such a memorable day for our family. Highly recommended.

  • Great views of Mt Fuji and local tea

We had an afternoon in Shizuoka on our cruise, and our guide picked us up at port on time and made sure to get us back on time too. We went to a beautiful waterfall, the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre, the Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha shrine, and a local tea shop. We were able to get incredible pictures of Mt. Fuji, and really enjoyed every location we went. Our guide and driver did a great job of getting us to all these places and not feeling rushed even though we only had 5 hours ashore. We traveled with my parents and our 3 kids (age range of 73 to 8) and we all had a terrific time.

We had a wonderful day in Shizuoka! We were very lucky as the day was clear and able to get a good view of Mt Fuji. Ikuyo was a wonderful guide and really explained how Shinto and Buddhism are different, but still work together. We ended the day at Miho beach, and by this time the clouds had rolled in so we could no longer see the mountain. It was still beautiful though.

We had a wonderful day tour with Shuji as our guide and Hirose as our driver. Shuji checked with us what we wanted to see and offered good suggestions. Shuji picked us up from the cruise terminal and efficiently showed us many of the sites before the crowds. Interesting information at each site including a brief history of Japan. Great for children. His stories informed us of Japanese life and were entertaining and often funny. Thank you Shuji and Hirose. Highly recommended.

We had a great time with our guide Acchan. She took us wherever we wanted which included the Miho Seacost pine tree forest, a lookout/observation area to view Mt. Fuji, and a lovely Japanese garden. Definitely recommend this tour.

Our guide, Teri was truly brilliant. He communicated in advance to ensure our trip was tailor-made for our group and it did not disappoint. He ensured that we were at the major sites in advance of the throng of cruise ship passengers and was really informative. We learned much about the culture and history of Japan and the Shimizu area. Teri could not do enough to ensure that we had a brilliant time and went out of his way to make everything ran smoothly. An excellent trip and a huge shout out to our wonderful driver.

  • Port Shimizu & Mt. Fuji with Yoshi

Despite a hot and cloudy day that unfortunately hid Mount Fuji from view, we had an absolutely fantastic tour thanks to our guide, Yoshi. Yoshi met us at Port Shimizu and immediately made us feel welcome and excited for the day ahead. While the sky was not cooperative, Yoshi's knowledge more than made up for it. He shared insights about the area, its history and culture. He took us to the seacoast, walked us on the beach with the black volcanic sand and showed us the amazing bonsai trees that were hundreds of years old. Even without a glimpse of the famous peak, our day was a success because of Yoshi's expertise and kindness. When he picked us up, I needed to go to a pharmacy, where he immediately took us to and walked us through to ensure we got what we needed. We highly recommend him to anyone visiting the area.

  • Perfect Day with Expert & Generous Tour Guide in Shimizu

    Scott D,Aug 7, 2025

    - Review from Viator

    5.00

This was our first port of call on our recent 12-day Japan cruise, and it was a lovely and reassuring way to start our journey. Mika-san was a phenomenal tour guide: she worked with me for months ahead of time to develop an itinerary that suited our goals of 1) maximizing our time in Shimizu; 2) maximizing our ability to see Mt Fuji; and 3) minimizing our interaction with huge groups of tourists. She even sent me links to a website that has a live-cam of Mt Fuji so that I can track visiblity in the days leading up to the tour. Mika-san and our expert and friendly driver Kikuchi-san took great care of us as we drove first to Shiraito Falls (arriving well ahead of any other tour groups). We then went to the nearby Sengen Shrine and then made a final stop at the gorgeous pine-lined beach area called Miho no Matsubara. Mika-san worked with me ahead of time to select a perfect lunch spot for us, where we were the only locals. We were lucky on our day in late July to have some partial Mt Fuji sightings, although it shyly hid behind clouds for much of the day. The amount of care and attention that went into the planning of our day here was outstanding. You are in a safe and expert pair of hands with Mika-san.
