Overnight in Reykjavík City
Reykjavik
Upon landing at Keflavík International Airport, make your own way to your accommodation in Reykjavík, Iceland’s vibrant capital city. Settle into your hotel, relax after your flight, and start soaking up the unique atmosphere of Iceland before your exciting 7-day Ring Road adventure begins.
Overnight in the town of Akureyri
Guide will show you to the bus and start the tour at 09:00. We drive northwards via the tunnel of Hvalfjörður to Borgarnes. Near Borgarnes, we stop at Grábrók Volcano, a volcanic fissure that erupted three thousand years ago. From there, we continue over Holtavörðuheiði highland plateau and arrive in the thriving farming area of northwest Iceland.
Skagafjordur
We drive past Skagafjörður, a deep fjord and valley and one of Iceland’s most prosperous agricultural regions. It boasts widespread dairy and sheep farming in addition to the horse breeding for which the district is famed. Skagafjörður is the only county in Iceland where horses outnumber people.
Glaumbaer Museum
We will visit Glaumbær Museum, a historic turf farm that offers a glimpse into traditional Icelandic life. The museum features well-preserved turf houses that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, showcasing how Icelanders lived in harmony with their harsh environment. Visitors can explore the old farmhouse, which has been carefully restored and furnished with period-appropriate items, providing an authentic experience of Icelandic rural life. The museum also offers insights into Icelandic history and culture, making it a fascinating destination for those interested in the country's heritage.
Akureyri
Continue over the highland plateau of Öxnadalsheidi to Akureyri, the capital of north Iceland. Overnight stay in Akureyri.
Overnight in the town of Egilsstaðir
Lake Myvatn
On this day, we concentrate on the beautiful area around Lake Mývatn. Lake Mývatn is a shallow lake in an area of active volcanism and boasts a high amount of biological activity.
Godafoss
Starting from Akureyri, the drive to Mývatn takes about an hour and a half. Along the way, we stop at Goðafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods," a stunning cascade with historical significance.
Dimmuborgir Lava Formations
We explore the unique volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, known as the "Dark Castles." These formations were created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago, making Dimmuborgir a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
Skutustadir
We take a stroll around the pseudocraters at Skútustaðagígar. These formations, created by steam explosions when hot lava flowed over wetlands, resemble volcanic craters but are not true volcanoes.
Grjotagja Caves
Another fascinating site is Grjótagjá, a small lava cave with a thermal spring inside. The cave is a popular spot for travellers seeking a unique and serene experience. The warm, clear water in the cave was once a favoured bathing spot, although it's less accessible now due to temperature fluctuations caused by volcanic activity. Grjótagjá also gained fame as a filming location for a popular TV series Game of Thrones, making it a must-visit for both nature lovers and fans of the show.
We also stop by the geothermal area at Námaskarð, where bubbling mud pools and steaming fumaroles create an otherworldly landscape.
Dettifoss Waterfall
On our way to Egilsstaðir in the east part of Iceland, we stop by Dettifoss Waterfall, reputed to be the second most powerful waterfall in Europe after the Rhine Falls. We then cross Möðrudalsöræfi highland desert through Jökuldalur and to Egilsstaðir.
Overnight in the town of Höfn
East Region
From Egilsstaðir, we drive through the Eastfjords to Höfn í Hornafirði. This part of the country has many narrow fjords surrounded by steep cliffs. In most of the fjords, we find small and attractive fishing villages. Visitors often overlook this part of the country despite its fantastic scenery, remote fishing villages, sparkling lakes, and traditional farms. The region boasts the sunniest weather in the county in summer, but in winter, it is often mystically hidden by a dense fog. The area is known for its wildlife, especially for being the only part of the country where herds of wild reindeer live. Initially, locals brought them to Iceland for farming, but the industry was never profitable, and the experiment was abandoned. The reindeer are still there and have roamed free since.
Hofn
Overnight stay in the town of Höfn í Hornafirði
Overnight in the town of Selfoss
Jokulsarlon
We leave Höfn to drive along the southeast coast of Iceland. The first stop is at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where we will take an amphibian boat tour. The Lagoon developed around 60 years ago with a continuous process of calving and falling icebergs from the glacier tongue Breiðamerkurjökull. These icebergs come in two shades: milky white and bright blue, an interplay of light and ice crystals.
Diamond Beach
Below the Lagoon, the sparkling shards and orbs of ice wash up on the shore of Breiðamerkursandur, causing it to be called Diamond Beach in English.
Vatnajokull National Park
We continue through Vatnajökull National Park, passing Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland’s highest peak (2,119m), before travelling over the vast lava fields of Eldhraun and the black glacial plains of Mýrdalssandur.
Reynisfjara Beach
We pass by the village of Vík and visit the black sand beach at Reynisfjara, known for its colony of puffins, unusual geological formations and smashing tidal waves. Be careful not to step too close as the waves can be dangerous.
Dyrholaey
From Reynisfjara, you can view the impressive promontory Dyrhólaey where the sea has carved an enormous hole through the rock.
Skogafoss
Next, we stop at Skógafoss, a majestic waterfall located on the Skógá River in Iceland, known for its impressive 60-meter drop and constant mist that creates vibrant rainbows on sunny days. Surrounded by lush greenery and steep cliffs, it stands as one of Iceland's most iconic and photogenic natural landmarks.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
At Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, you can walk behind the waterfall but dress well, as the water mist behind the waterfall can make you wet.
Overnight in Reykjavík City
Gullfoss Falls
On this day, we tour the renowned Golden Circle. We start with a visit to the majestic Gullfoss, often referred to as the "Golden Falls," a breathtaking two-tiered waterfall situated in the canyon of the Hvítá River in Iceland. Renowned for its sheer power and beauty, Gullfoss plunges dramatically into a rugged gorge, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that attracts visitors from around the world.
Geysir
Then we head to the Geysir hot spring area, home to the famous Geysir hot spring from which all other geysers take their name. Geysir is no longer active, but another hot spring, Strokkur, erupts every few minutes.
Thingvellir National Park
Next, we visit the National Park at Þingvellir, where the North American and European tectonic plates drift apart and create a rift valley. The ancient Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, was established at Þingvellir in 930. Now residing in Reykjavík, it is one of the oldest surviving parliaments in the world. Þingvellir is, consequently, a sacred place for Icelanders.
Reykjavik
From Þingvellir, we return to Reykjavík for our final night.

I went on this holiday with my wife for our honeymoon, and we both had an amazing time. We got to see such a wide variety of what Iceland has to show, from geysers to waterfalls and lava fields, but did not feel rushed at all as we went from place to place. Our tour guide Heimir was incredibly knowledgeable and was in a great mood throughout the trip, being very memorable himself. Iceland is a very expensive place to stay due to dining costs, so this is something to consider before coming, but I definitely feel that we got our moneys worth from this tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Iceland without being stuck in just one place.

I had the most incredible time. Heimir was a truly excellent guide; so friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I loved seeing all the waterfalls on this trip, we made a few extra stops than on the program and every one of them was beautiful. This was an action packed week which let us see a little bit of everything. I would highly recommend this tour!

The 7-day tour of Iceland is highly recommended. You tour the entire island through stunning sights and scenery. We were a group of 21 people. We want to highlight the professionalism of Guide Ellert and Driver Christian.

Amazing trip around Iceland with my mom. Outlr tour guide / driver, Ellert, was very knowledgeable. We went early in the season,so some shops in more rural areas don't open until May 1st. While prices in restaurants were much higher than I'm accustomed to at home, there also wasn't a single disappointing meal the entire week, including sandwiches and hot dogs from gas stations and grocery stores in the rural areas! Make sure to bring a water bottle / travel mug to make tea or coffee at your hotel, and recommend waterproof pants and jacket for sure.

This tour was incredible. I feel like we got to see all the highlights in Iceland. The tour guide and bus driver were great. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about Iceland. We had one handicap person that walks with a cane in our family group. He was not able to get into the raft on the boat tour of the lagoon. He had to walk down a treacherous rocky path just to turn around and go back. I think warnings should be stated in the itinerary that not all activities are for everyone. Also one of the waterfalls was very treacherous with icy paths and an extremely long walk. Only about half of our group even tried to get there. There was nothing stated in the itinerary or told to us by our guide. The hotels were very nice and the breakfast buffets were very good. All in all the tour was wonderful.

We had the most wonderful trip and the tour exceeded our expectations. We saw sights and places we would never have got to ourselves. I (30) travelled with my 73 year old mother from the UK and we agree this was the best way to see the country as we didn’t have to worry about the planning, timings, driving, parking or accommodation, we could just relax and enjoy the days. By being on the tour with a guide we learnt so much about the places we were seeing as well as the country and culture. Arni our guide also personalised this by telling us about the island and history of the area that he is from. Arni was the best guide we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and being guided by. From the first day to the last; he was professional but kind and approachable, extremely knowledgable from language to culture, history and geography, he was accommodating and we knew we were in safe hands at all times even when the driving conditions were tricky with the weather and when we encountered some unexpected challenges along the way. He really made the time special and enhanced our trip, even adding on extra bonus stops for us to walk to see a glacier and to see the Icelandic horses up close. The mini coach was very comfortable and had usb charging points which was very useful. We were a group of 17 so had plenty of room. The hotels were basic but comfortable with a good breakfast to start the day. Arni always pointed out food options for dinner each night as we pulled into each town and stopped frequently during the long drives for bathroom breaks. We opted to add on the forest lagoon which I would recommend for a relaxing evening but didn’t add the whale watching on the last night instead we headed off on a separate trip to the blue lagoon. Make sure you head into the city of Reykjavik for a walk around on your first or last evening as it’s the one thing this tour doesn’t cover. It’s only a short walk from the hotel. Thanks again to Arni and the compan we would not hesitate to return and will definitely be booking another tour or excursions via the company in the future.

Really fabulous experience with good hotels and lovely guide.company easily contacted. Tour relaxed and good spread of things seen.stopped at least once every 2 hrs often 30 mins. Guide gave us clear instructions and a spattering of stories and info. Also focused on puffins/ birds / horses etc. "7 days" is actually 09:00 Mon -14:30 Fri of travel/6 nights hotel so check for comparisons. Tell the guide if you have particular interests / things to do etc.

Book this tour, you see almost all of the must sees and some surprises too. We found that booking directly with Snaeland Grimsson was considerably less expensive than booking with Expedia, so consider that. Communication with Snaeland head office was "slow" but that also had to do with "time zone" issues. The tour is on a medium sized bus ( 29 seats) we had 17 on our tour, so lots of room. Our driver (Ellert) was AMAZING. Geologist, Historian, Earth Scientist, Mythologist, Meteorologist, all rolled in to Viking of a guy who spoke at least 5 languages. Ellert started our tour by letting us know that we were in for some 'hity weather in June and we found that many of the Northern stops were in gale force winds and driving sleet and snow. Pack weather gear, gloves and hats with you in your backpack on the bus... In spite of the snowy roads and frankly terrible conditions, the sites were still amazing.. It almost added to the fun. You are going to see about 7 or so waterfalls up close, all a different, all are amazing. The stays are almost all at Berjaya hotels they were all clean and conferable, with a free (filling) breakfast each morning. We added all of the optional items. The Forest Spa (Hot Spring) is worth it, I would pass on the whale watching next time, the boat was very large and very full. We did see a humpback, but at 3 hours long (again windy and cold) it was just too much at the end of a busy trip. This tour misses "downtown" Reykjavik So I would book a night or two downtown before this tour, this will help you see the capital and get over the jet lag and get used to the sun never really setting in the summer (pack a quality sleep mask). The tour misses also getting onto a glacier, so if that is important to you there are day tours that do that. When you check into the Natura hotel, make sure you do the 10 minute walk up to Perlan (the Pearl) and check out the exhibits there and you get a nice view of downtown too. Last thing... Food in Iceland is CRAZY expensive, double, sometime triple what you will pay at home... Prices are constantly bad everywhere. But Iceland is worth it. I would not only go back to Iceland but I would do this tour again.

I was a bit worried about booking this tour because there weren't many reviews, but I am so glad I did! My mother and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and the size of the tour group was perfect (17 people, so it was more intimate). Our tour guide, Guðren, was positively fantastic, and we appreciated her local insights and love for her culture. I would definitely recommend this tour.
