Basel’s Old Town reflects more than two thousand years of history shaped by its location along the Rhine. Our walk begins at Marktplatz, where the red Rathaus has served as the city’s political center for over 500 years. From there, we explore the medieval streets of Spalenberg, lined with colorful historic buildings and small shops. The route continues to the Basel Minster, built of red sandstone and overlooking the river. From the nearby Pfalz terrace, panoramic views reveal the Old Town and surrounding districts. The tour concludes at the historic Mittlere Brücke, one of Basel’s most iconic viewpoints.

5.00Alejandro was amazing. Very knowledgeable and skilled in chocolate making. Viator made mistakes on times and locations for this event. Would not book through them again. Had one day in Basel and wasted half of it chasing down this event.

3.00Our guide Lincoln was very personable and knowledgeable, and was happy to answer our questions on the way round. In hindsight, however, we are disappointed with the food offering. We didn’t sample anything at the farmer’s market (unlike other tours, judging from online pics) and when we went to Gilgen’s the staff didn’t seem to know we were coming and were reluctant to offer us samples until Lincoln said we would buy something. We were expecting to try a range of pastries (again as per previous people’s reviews), but were only given lackerli. The chocolate and cheese part of the tour was informative, interesting and tasty, but again we thought we would be moving on to other places to taste more chocolate and cheese. Compared with the Navigli Food and Walking tour we did in Milan, for which we paid a similar price, we feel shortchanged by this tour.
