Ecoparque El Espino provides habitat for a diverse avian community, hosting approximately 221 bird species. It´s number sixth hotspot for birdwatching in El Salvador.
Among the easily observable bird species are the Turquoise-browed Motmot, Lesson´s Motmot, Red-billed Pigeon, Berylline Hummingbird, White-throated Magpie-Jay, Squirrel Cuckoo, Gartered Trogon, Masked Tityra, Black-headed Saltator, Streak-backed Oriole, White-bellied Chachalaca and Collared Aracari.
El Boqueron National Park, situated atop the dormant San Salvador Volcano at an elevation of 5,905 ft above sea level, features a prominent attraction: a crater measuring 3 miles in diameter and plunging 1,830 ft deep. It´s a good spot for regional endemics such as Bushy-crested Jay, Rufous Sabrewing, Cinnamon-bellied Flowerpiercer and Brown-backed Solitaire.

Ecoparque El Espino
Eco Parque El Espino is characterized as an actively managed shaded coffee plantation interspersed with patches of deciduous forest. Located at an elevation ranging from 2642 ft to 3937 ft above sea level (800 m - 1200 m) and spanning across 35 hectares, it provides habitat for a diverse avian community, hosting approximately 221 bird species. It´s ranked as the sixth hotspot for birdwatching in El Salvador. Notable features within the park include small geysers.
Parque Nacional El Boqueron
El Boqueron National Park, situated atop the dormant San Salvador Volcano at an elevation of 5,905 feet (1800 meters), features a prominent attraction: a crater measuring five kilometers in diameter and plunging 558 meters deep. With a reported count of 170 bird species, the park is particularly renowned for its highland avian inhabitants.

5.00You can book directly through his website, where you find his WhatsApp. Rodolfo is not only professional, also he's fun(ny). We heard he also trains people to help him do his tours in the high season. But we were lucky to be with the G.O.A.T. himself, when it comes to birding in El Salvador if you ask me. How many birds you spot doesn't matter, nature being nature and all, but still, Rodolfo's help in spotting many birds is amazing. His calmth, patience, flexibility, combined with his professionalism, it shows he is a biologist and experienced in what he does: giving birding tours and birding in general. Our tour was close to San Salvador in a beautifully maintained privately owned park. Rodolfo tuned in perfectly on the combination of people: one more trained than the other, though no-one knew most the local birds, being European ourselves. Rodolfo's English is perfect, he knows all the English names of the birds, his eye is crazy sharp and his ear is astonishing. Planning-wise: he brings you to- and from your place in San Salvador in his car. A 2-3 hour tour is more than enough for an overwhelming amount of beauty to behold, even in June (off-season). Rodolfo, I'm happy you can make a living off birding in your beautiful country, we are considering to come again some time. Warm regards from the Netherlands!

5.00My dad and I went to El Salvador to celebrate my graduation from university, where I studied Plant Sciences + Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. I absolutely LOVED my class that was focused on birding and the ecology of birds in the Southeast USA, so I knew I wanted to experience some of the endemic and native birds in El Salvador, and Rodolfo absolutely delivered!! I would say I am beginner-intermediate when it comes to birding, and my dad had never been before/knew nothing about birds and we both had a GREAT time! Rodolfo is incredibly enthusiastic and truly knows his stuff. He also gave me the time and space to nerd out over the plants as well, which was wonderful. Couldn't recommend this experience enough!! Go!!!

5.00This was a fantastic experience. Rodolfo is a wonderful guide who knows ALL the birds by sight and sound and will help you to find them! Pickup at the hotel was perfect, we felt safe and comfortable on the drive to the park and El Boqueron. Everything was taken care of. I highly recommend this tour, even for birding novices like me.

5.00I birded with Rodolfo Walsh on March 1 in El Boqueron NP and in Ecoparque El Espino. On March 3, I again birded with him at Los Volcanos NP and Joya de Ceres Sitio Arqueologico park. I have been fortunate to have birded with many guides in some strange and exotic places. Rodolfo is at the top of my list of great guides to spend time with. Not only can he easily identify birds by sight and sound, he also has a knack for helping me see in the trees where the birds were. When you travel between sites ask him to play some of his music. He is a great singer/song writer. If I ever travel again to that wonderful country I will certainly look him up.

5.00I would highly recommend doing a bird tour with Rodolfo. This was my first outing with a guide and I absolutely loved it. Rodolfo is very nice and very knowledgeable about the birds in El Salvador. He easily recognizes birds by sight and by ear and he is very good at pointing out where the birds are if I don't see them immediately.I visited the El Espino ecoparc and El Boqueron with him for about six hours and we saw a lot of very nice species.I would. definitely take another tour with him if I go back to El Salvador and I definitely recommend him as a birding guide.

5.00We went on the Cloud forest adventure with Rodolfo and we were completely charmed! We've never done a bird watching tour before, but we love birds and we own two parrots. Rodolfo is such a gentle and knowledgeable soul; his passion for birds is contagious and he made us want to observe the birds more. If we go back to El Salvador or if we go to Guatemala, we will definitely book another tour with him. Even it it's a tad pricey, I believe it is 100% worth it. That's what made us hesitate at first, but we're so happy we decided to go on with it anyways. Thanks for everything, Rodolfo! ☺

5.00Rodolfo was great! He knows his birds by sight and sound! He has excellent ears. We found over 200 species in 8 days. We appreciated his expertise in all areas of natural history and his English is great!

5.00Highly recommend! Rodolfo worked with us to find the correct tours. He assigned Ricky to us for both days and Ricky was great. We managed to find many birds that were supposed to have left the area by middle February. I think we saw every species that experienced birders would expect to see, plus a couple of the more secretive ones. The Northern Potoo was our favorite. We know we lucked up on that one.
