Province of Modena
We’ll start this incredible journey with an early pick up (around 7:00am) in Bologna with our private minivan or minibus to head to the countryside between Modena and Bologna. Why so early? Parmigiano Reggiano doesn’t wait! It’s made only in the early morning and we want you to get in action ASAP! We will see the cheesemakers taking care of all the production steps right before your eyes. You can touch the creamy curd, taste the cooked cheese and get absolutely stunned by the warehouse, where thousands of wheels all around you wait at least 12 months to be “baptized” as Parmigiano Reggiano. Time to taste it, what’d you expect? Young or aged, creamy or crunchy, delicate or intense: you can decide which of the 2 different-age samples is your favorite… or just love them both!
Monteveglio
Third and last excellence to meet: meat (pun intended)! Prosciutto Factory Montevecchio’s products will conquer your palate with its fragrant smell, buttery texture and delicate savoriness. We’ll learn about the strict regulations, the long curing process, and the tremendous care necessary to transform only 2 ingredients into a typical product with unique characteristics. We’ll taste its wholesomeness and genuineness with other local charcuteries and a glass of Lambrusco, before a proper lunch is served!

This is a fully immersive experience that is perfect for foodies who appreciate the process behind quality food. While it is highly informative, there are also plenty opportunities for fun and experiencing incredible food and wine.

Archive Julia was absolutely amazing! I’ve never had a tour guide come onto the bus before and actually go around to every single person and greet them and say hello and good morning. We learned so much about Parmesan Reggiano, balsamic vinegar, and prosciutto from Julia in a fun and informative way. We were not quite sure what to expect regarding food that day, but I do need to say that there was an abundance of food! There was a full breakfast with different kinds of meats and breads in addition to a lunch where the courses of food just kept coming and coming and coming. They played music on songs and it really was one of our best days in Bologna.

I believe our bus driver’s name was Roberta. She was our driver, hostess, espresso maker, server, and Tina Turner double: all in one! Serena was our super knowledgeable guide as to how Parmigiano Reggiano, prosciutto and balsamic vinegar are all produced with pride and care in this region of Italy. Each stop at a production facility included an in depth explanation. The lunch was amazing! After the generous appertivo course came FOUR different types of pasta, four different wines. Roberta, Serena and the lunch hosts became DJ and entertainment in a fun way as we partied on. By mid afternoon our tour group was bursting with appreciation for Italian fine food figuratively and literally and we had found new friends from around the world.

Julia was a wonderful guide: informed, clear, professional, patient, and fun. Roberta, our driver and general tour assist was just as lovely. These women truly care about creating an enacting and friendly tour experience for all and they could not have done a better job! I found the Parmagiano Reggiano production facility most interesting, as we were able to see several, real production steps happen up close in real time. I was a bit skeptical when I discovered on the bus that lunch incuded karaoke - which is not for me - but it was really a lot of fun, and more of a light DJ’d experience with the staff singing and all of us joining in. The best part of that was seeing how much the staff (and chef!) seemed to enjoy leading the tour group in song. Their enthusiasm was infectious and honestly it was really warm and lovely to see. The breakfast and lunch was very good, and both the Balsamico and Prosciutto stops were also nice. Overall, it was a very good tour and a lot of fun!

A fantastic day out with a never forget experience of learning how and where these fine foods are made culminating in a fun lunch/ party time. A pretty that the price is so hiked up by Viator though. Go directly to the Italian days website to book. Much cheaper than what we paid. Our host Elena was amazing as was the bus driver and co host Roberta

Was more than we ever thought. Sure, it starts early in the morning, but by breakfast, you realize that you have got your money’s worth. Of all our escapades in booking guided tours, this by far is at the top. This is a “not to be missed”!

A tour that is worth it; Linda, our guide, was very patient and professional, and Roberta, the driver, is simply great. It is very worthwhile to learn about all the processes; the truck was very comfortable, and we had a very good lunch at the balsamic winery; afterwards, the food was delicious and it turned into a true Italian feast. Very fun!!!

This is a full day from 7am to 4pm. The tours of cheese making, balsamic vinegar and prosciutto were very well done and very informative. The breakfast and the lunch were both excellent in terms of quality and quantity of food. It was a fantastic experience but you have to be interested and enjoy all the information. Some might find it too much but we would highly recommend!!
