Join Discova for an after-dark culture and food trail through Chiang Mai’s Old Town with a local foodie expert. Begin at Wat Lok Moli as evening light settles over its teak hall and ancient chedi, then taste your way through lively night markets with local snacks, Thai sweets and seasonal fruit. Ride red songthaews between temples, city gates and food stops, pausing at the 3 Kings Monument before stepping into Wat Chedi Luang to hear the Emerald Buddha story. Along the way, try northern Thai favourites including Khao Soi and Hung Lay pork curry at a family-run restaurant known for traditional Chiang Mai dishes. End at Anusarn Night Market, where you can keep the night going with shopping, drinks or Chiang Mai’s famous cabaret.

Meet our licensed local guide at Wat Lok Moli, just outside the northern old city walls. With its dark teak hall, large brick chedi and links to Chiang Mai’s Lanna royal past, this historic temple is a beautiful place to begin, especially as the soft evening light settles over the grounds.
Chang Phuak Gate Night Market
From Wat Lok Moli, continue on foot to Chang Puak Gate Market, one of Chiang Mai’s classic evening food spots. Here, the first tastings come straight from the stalls, including Lanna sausage and a surprise dish. Then hop into a red songthaew for a short ride through the old city.

Our guide did not do or follow what was described in the presentation. We did not stop at a restaurant to have khao Soi we got it from a street vendor. We walked a lot, more than I had expected (this tour is absolutely not for persons who cannot walk). We did not get a dessert...nor did we visit all the temples. Having done such tours in different cities, I was expecting more time in food and less time on walking between two points. We breezed through the fruit market and the flower market without a lot of explanations. The guide bought food for himself. It was an interesting visit, but I did not learn anything new about Thai cuisine. The temples were nice but one could skip the 3 kings...it brings nothing. And maybe use more tuktuk.

This is a great introduction to the sights and tastes of Chiang Mai. My guide was friendly and customized the food selections based on my likes/dislikes and interests. I got to taste a very nice variety as we worked our way through several markets and a fantastic restaurant. We also saw the main sights of old town Chiang Mai all lit up at night. I had a blast and would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a little guidance when getting their feet wet in Chiang Mai!

We were especially lucky on our short-term booked tour with our guide Bim! We were alone with her in the city, and she read all the wishes from our eyes. She introduced us to the eating habits of Thais, visited the most beautiful temple in the city with us, made a detour through the flower market and Chinatown until we ended up at an idyllic riverside bar. A tour that is highly recommended to collect the first impressions of Chiang Mai.
