The caves are amazing and some of the oldest antiquities you will find in India. The guide in the caves was very knowledgeable as he earned a MA in History and wrote a book about the caves (that the guys near the toilets will try to sell you full price). It states "after an early breakfast", so I assumed breakfast was included. That was my mistake. It also stated bottled water was included; it was not. On past Viator tours, the drivers and guides always had several bottles per person. We were never offered one. Thus, we had to ration the tiny hotel bottle we had. Given the heat, this caused concern. There were water stations, but I wasn't chancing that. There was a driver that picked us up with not much English. He passed us off to another driver in the car park. That driver had another couple who complained for 10 minutes that it wasn't a private tour since we were there. I agree; it was not private and personalized, but we was fine with just four. That driver took us to the bus (without explaining the bus is one way only, so be prepared to pay to get back via the bus!) and the ticket booth. We told him three times that we needed water and he said he would purchase it for us once. Another time he told us to purchase at the hotel, but we never saw a hotel. We used the toilet and he started us up the stairs. At the top, we asked where we get water and he looked defeated and seemed surprised we didn't by it somewhere before the stairs. Thus, BRING YOUR OWN WATER! Also, be prepared to walk through "the gauntlet" of vendors twice. On the way up, they "offer" gifts, then expect visits (and purchases) from their booths on the way back. This is normal around the world, but this was the worst I experienced in India.

We booked a private tour with private vehicle. We only get our own vehicle and had to join the group with other people at the caves. Definitely not we wanted or paid for. We asked for own guide at the spot but the conversation with the representative of Aurangabad By Locals was useless. He said we only booked for private vehicle not for private tour even though it was clearly written in the description of the tour and we paid for it. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend neither Viator nor Aurangabad by Locals. You would get the same tour with private guide cheaper from somewhere else.

The caves are beautiful, like something from a movie. Would recommend making the trip. Our driver Irfan was very sweet and polite, maybe the best driver I’ve had in my three months in India.

The car was very old, horrible, had no power to go up the hills. The AC filter didn’t work and there was smell of diesel in the car and our bodies got covered in some black carbon stuff.

We had a wonderful day at the Ajanta Caves. As a practicing Buddhist it was so amazing to experience these caves. Our driver was wonderful, very sweet. Afterwards he took us to an amazing vantage point where we could look down on the caves and really see the whole geographical view. Totally amazing! Our guide was very knowledgeable and his English was very good.

I recently visited Ajanta Caves - a UNESCO Heritage Site. We drove there from the Kailas Resort near Ellora where we were staying. Since we left early, it took us just over two hours to cover the 100-odd km. There is ample parking space and since we reached early, we could get a nice shady spot. From the parking, one has to walk through a small area filled with shops and dhaba-type restaurants, where we chose to have our breakfast. It is thereafter a short walk to the bus embarkation point and the bus takes about 10 minutes to reach the actual site. After purchasing your tickets, you are required to do a fairly steep climb of about 10 minutes. The climb has both steps as well as a ramp and there are also dolis for those who may be physically challenged. One reaching the top, one gets a good panoramic view of the caves as well as the valley below, through which a stream runs. blown away by the beauty and grandeur of the place. Though there are 29 caves in all, you can only see and explore 26, with Caves 1, 2, 16 and 17 having the most famous paintings and Cave 26 having the most famous sculptures, including one large sleeping Buddha. You have to remove footwear while entering most of the caves. Also, videography and flash photography are not permitted inside the caves. The caves are a true testament to the skill and artistry of the ancient Indian craftsmen who created them. The intricate carvings and paintings on the walls are simply breathtaking, and the sheer scale of the caves is awe-inspiring. I was particularly impressed by the way the caves have been preserved and maintained over the years, which has helped to keep them in such excellent condition. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Ajanta Caves to anyone who is interested in history, art, or ancient architecture. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience that you won’t forget anytime soon!

Basically it was a good trip. The driver is modest and very nice person. He could propose various plans for me other than going to Ajanta caves. One thing. I was told that from my guide that it is good to visit here in rainy season because trees are beautiful.
