A really fun trip. Dexter our driver was professional and informative but very funny too. We tasted some very good rums at Four Square and Mount Gay. Guides in both places really held our interest. I think at Mount Gay they could have acknowledged the fact that the industry was built off the back of trans Atlantic slave labour. To give this the cursory mention it got was a serious omission. It would not have diminished the tour in any way. Owning the history and respectfully acknowledging it is a form of reparation. Step up Mountain Gay.

My boyfriend and I recently took the Barbados Rum Tasting Tour, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. It felt like an incredible value because we received so much more than what we paid for. Our driver, Dexter, picked us up directly from our hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned Sprinter van that quickly became our “party bus” for the day. From the moment we met him, he had us laughing non-stop. He was hilarious, incredibly kind, and turned the drive into a fascinating sightseeing experience. On the way to Foursquare Rum Distillery, Dexter shared insights about Barbados’ culture, history, agriculture, and daily life. At Foursquare, we were able to safely leave larger belongings in the locked van before enjoying a fantastic distillery tour and rum tasting. We had plenty of time to explore, take photos, ask questions, and browse the gift shop. The tasting room was beautiful, and there were clean restrooms and snacks available for purchase. After Foursquare, we had over an hour before our next tour at Mt. Gay, and this is where the experience really exceeded expectations. Rather than simply waiting around, Dexter took us on an extended island tour. He stopped at Rihanna’s childhood home where he played photographer for us all, pointed out local landmarks, and even pulled over when we spotted vendors selling coconut sweet bread and local fruits. He was happy to accommodate extra stops and made sure everyone was having a great time. The Mt. Gay experience was equally impressive and the rums did not disappoint. It was the same full tour you would receive if you booked directly through Mt. Gay. While we personally preferred the rums at Foursquare, Mt. Gay’s atmosphere and hospitality were outstanding. Our guide, “Rum Al,” was energetic, entertaining, and incredibly knowledgeable. We enjoyed cocktails before the tour, learned a lot about the rum-making process, and had time afterward to shop for a Barbados-exclusive dark rum and relax at their beachfront cocktail lounge. The return trip was just as enjoyable. Dexter surprised us with homemade banana bread between tours, and the owner, Scott, even stopped by Mt. Gay to greet everyone personally by name. That level of customer service really stood out. I also appreciated how well the day was structured. Every distillery had plenty of cold water available, and there was a nice balance of indoor and outdoor activities, making it easy to stay comfortable despite the tropical climate. My only recommendation for future guests is to eat a hearty breakfast before the tour—you’ll definitely be tasting plenty of rum throughout the day! Overall, this was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Great rum, amazing guides, outstanding service, and a much more personal and immersive tour than we expected. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Barbados.

The tour was transportation from a pickup site (our resort) to the Foursquare Distillery, then to the Mount Gay Visitor Center in Bridgetown (not the actual distillery in the north of the island), then back to our resort. Having done several distillery tours on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, I was surprised how small the operation was at Foursquare compared to places like Buffalo Trace or Jim Beam. Not that this was a bad thing, just thought the scale would be larger. Mount Gay was the slicker presentation, Foursquare was more in depth about the rum making process, but both tasting room experiences were very good. We picked up a bottle from each place to bring home.

Dexter (driver) was excellent throughout the day. He was friendly, punctual, and very easy to talk to, which made the journey between stops enjoyable. At the Foursquare Rum Distillery, Tamera was a fantastic guide. She clearly and engagingly explained the rum-making process, including fermentation and barrel ageing. It was especially interesting to learn that Foursquare operates as a fully self-contained distillery on the grounds of a former sugar plantation in St. Philip, which adds a lot of historical context to the experience. At the Mount Gay Visitor Experience, Damien was equally good. On arrival, we were welcomed with rum punch, followed by a brief but informative history of Mount Gay. We then moved through the production process, finishing with a tasting session after a short video presentation that helped tie everything together. In terms of whether one should book this tour, or visit the distillery/visitor centre independently comes down to your convenience e.g. making your own way, paying for tickets etc. Overall, the experience was very well organised and the guides at both distilleries were knowledgeable and engaging.

The tour started on time and was friendly and information. The 2 rum tours that we went on was very good and informative - would recommend if not been on a rum tour before.

Driver was great!!! But the tour was just ok. There are no options to buy food for a five hour driving tour so plan ahead. Tastings were ok — tour guides were great. I wouldn’t recommend this tour. It would be better with a smaller group and lunch at least available to buy.

Excellent tour. Included two tasting venues so we were quite tipsy at the end! Dexter was a great tour driver with good jokes. The tasting guide at Mount Gay presented in a most entertaining way. Highly recommend this tour if you like rum!

Williams Tours Dear Williams Tours, I wanted to take a moment to share how much we enjoyed our recent experience with your tour service. Our guide, Rooster, was truly exceptional; he shared an impressive amount of detailed information about the island and the Bajan people. Learning about how things have changed for the better to support the community and preserve the island made the visit even more meaningful. Rooster’s passion and knowledge made the tour both educational and enjoyable. His stories and insights gave us a richer understanding of the island’s history and culture, which we deeply appreciated. It’s clear that Williams Tours takes great care to provide guests with a thoughtful and authentic experience. Thank you for such a memorable trip. We look forward to recommending your tours to others and hope to visit again soon. Warm regards, Janet Wickenden
