Make the most of your time ashore with this carefully crafted excursion from the port of Ísafjörður — designed to showcase the untamed beauty and hidden gems of Iceland’s Westfjords. Unlike typical tours, this journey takes you off the beaten path to places most travelers never reach. We’ll pass through the charming fishing village of Bolungarvík and, weather permitting, visit one of Iceland’s most breathtaking viewpoints, perched high above the cliffs. Step back in time at traditional turf-roofed fisherman’s huts and experience how early Icelanders lived by the sea. The highlight is the majestic Dynjandi waterfall — considered by many to be Iceland’s most beautiful. Hidden deep in the fjords, it’s a true natural wonder rarely seen by visitors. This small-group tour offers a rare chance to discover the raw, authentic side of Iceland — far from the crowds and full of culture, history, and unforgettable views.

Bolungarvik
Cross one of Iceland’s longest tunnels (5.5 km) and arrive at Bolungarvík, a remote fishing village tucked between towering cliffs and the sea. With just 1,000 residents and one of Iceland’s oldest ports, it’s a hidden gem rich in history and charm.
Bolafjall
Just 3 years ago, Bolungarvík opened its boldest attraction: a cliff-edge viewing platform atop Mount Bolafjall, 628 meters above sea level. Suspended by 60 tons of steel, it offers thrilling views over the village, dramatic fjords, and even, on clear days, all the way to Greenland. Dare to step out and see Iceland from above!

Fab trip with both history and scenery included. Just a shame we couldn't go up in the mountains due to snowfall but went to a small fishing village instead, which was lovely. Would recommend this trip. The driver for this tour was also very knowledgeable and made the trip memorable.

If we had gotten the advertised tour, with a real guide who offered information, it would have been amazing. The waterfall was worth every second there. THe rest of the trip was really just a bus ride with time at a self guided old fishing village. We did not go to the platform because the road had been closed for snow for many days. They did not have a good substitution for this. Our guide could have made the fishing village and last minute stop better had he "guided" but he did not. Kind of felt like a wasted afternoon and could have paid less just to see the waterfall and been more satisfied.

I was immediately concerned when within the first 15 minutes our guide asked if we wanted the radio on and what type of music......we paid for a guided tour and expected some documentary, stories, history of the tunnels, folklore....anything but music. Luckily someone spoke up and said no music, but the guide did not speak much. The waterfall was stunning but our gentleman guide did not lead a tour. He himself used the opportunity to have daring photos taken of himself all around the waterfall while telling us when to be back on the bus. We had plenty of time there and it was worth every minute if you are physically able to make the climb up. We were then to go to a fishing village and the Bolafjall platform for spectacular viewing but were told the road was closed by the government due to massive snow many days before. This was not a new change; however, we were not notified and they acted like it was last minute and had to fill the time with something. The tour company took two busses to another fishing village which had nothing to really look at and barely even toilet facilities. Again, the guide offered no real info or guidance about the town....we were on our own for a 15 minute (actually 30 min) stop......a real joke. Next planned stop was an original fishing village with grass roof cabins, lots of fishing equipment and a gentleman dressed in original fishing attire with his boat. Our guide did not bother to lead our group to the site or explain that the fisherman was the main person explaining fishing and the village, even though he spoke very little english. It was only after walking around, trying to see/read dimly lit displays and returning to the bus that others told us about the fisherman and his purpose there. We just thought he was part of the display and there for photo ops. The other bus guide walked with his group and translated for them. Except for beautiful scenery, the waterfall, and getting out of the city, our guide was a huge disappointment and we felt very short changed for the amount of time and $ spent on this tour. They could have planned better for the time allotted for the closed road and definitley given more info. People tried to ask questions and he basically shut them down. They even killed time by driving up the road to show us the chain across it closing it.

Tour content overall was good. Dynjandi waterfall is gorgeous. Early June expect crowds, long lines at the bathrooms and fairly strenuous hike to the top of the falls made more complicated by the number of people and the limited time allotted. It’s a bit deceiving because it is a nice walkway at first but fairly quickly becomes more challenging. Our guide (Tony) may not yet have full command of English and many of his stories were difficult to follow. One of the towns we were supposed to visit was not accessible due to a recent snowstorm that closed roads, which of course was not their fault, but there was no mention of that until the time we were supposed to go there. I believe they should have told us right away. Instead we went to another small town and directed to a coffee shop, but the door was locked. Turns out, the coffee shop was down the street a bit. At the Fishing Museum we were told to make sure to gather see the information, but not told where. When we got to the bottom of the hillside, the guide made motions for us that seemed to be to go back up to the bus, so several of us did. Turns out he was trying to gather people for a short presentation given by a “fisherman” that we missed but was told was interesting. The museum was worthwhile but for me was “self led” and I would have loved to know more. Questions were left unanswered, narrative was sparse, and the day was rushed but the stops and the beautiful scenery made the trip worthwhile anyway.

Johnathan took very good care of us all day. The falls are beautiful, and while we were disappointed the government had closed the road to the overlook, the small town we visited instead was charming. We were back to the ship with plenty of time!

The tour didn't go to Iceland’s most breathtaking viewpoints, perched high above the cliffs. So regret! The viewpoint is the reason I booked this tour.

I must admit that I did not have high expectations for this excursion, but I really enjoyed it! We saw the Dynjandi waterfall, truly stunning and majestic, where we stopped for an hour, the time needed to climb to the top. We visited a charming little village, and we had the opportunity to see the original houses of the fishermen (those with grass on the roof) where a local boy explained to us how fishing worked, their clothing, and more. Our guide Jonathan also gave us a gift that allowed him to tell us the story of the Myth of Drekki the dragon. I thank Jonathan for all the explanations provided. Thank you
