Enjoy a leisurely cycling tour of Karuizawa's classic spots. After renting a bicycle in front of Karuizawa Station, head to Kumobaike Pond, Karuizawa's most scenic spot. After getting off the bike and strolling around for a while, head to Old Karuizawa through the wooded villa area. While touring the narrow paths of the backstreets of Old Karuizawa, we will guide you to classic spots such as St. Paul's Catholic Church, Shaw Memorial Chapel, and the Karuizawa Association Tennis Court, famous for the romance between the Emperor and Empress. The entire route is flat, so people of all ages and genders can participate. For parents and children or couples, there is also a tandem (two-seater) tour unique to Karuizawa!

What To Expect
Kumoba Pond
A beautiful pond called "Swan Lake" because swans flew in winter. In early summer, fresh green and fiery autumn leaves are projected, and in winter, a pure white "snow scene" spreads and it can be enjoyed every season.
St.Paul's Catholic Church Karuizawa
Karuizawa's symbolic church, built in 1955. The architect was the architect of the American architect Antony Raymond. This church features a steep triangle roof and a large steeple. Many people, including celebrities, are raising ceremonies here as a wedding hall, as it is written in a novel by Hori Tatsuo, "When we get married in St. Paul's church, we are blessed by many people." .

5.00Karuizawa is one of the best places to visit in Japan for relaxation! I traveled to Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture twice, once when I was 10 and again at 14, with my parents and grandparents, respectively. During my first visit, I thoroughly enjoyed cycling around the Karuizawa area. Since Karuizawa has beautiful nature, it’s a tranquil and serene place, giving me a sense of peace and fulfillment. With refreshing breezes and the scent of the forest, I felt relaxed as I cycled through. On my second visit, I stayed at a hotel with a stylish design that inspired creativity. The room felt like a secret base: the upper level had a bed, while the lower level featured a cozy sofa. There’s also a shopping street nearby, where visitors can enjoy dining and buying unique souvenirs. I ate soba, a specialty of Nagano Prefecture, and was surprised by the depth of its flavor. During both visits, I went to a shrine located on the border between Gunma and Nagano Prefectures. Interestingly, the shrine on the Gunma side is called “Kumano Shrine,” while on the Nagano side, it’s known as “Kumanokotai Shrine.” The sacred Shinano tree, over 1,000 years old, is revered for bringing good luck and fostering relationships. Perched at the top of Usui Pass, the shrine also offers a stunning view! Karuizawa is truly a wonderful place to relax!
