21st. April I was very inspired by my China Highlights guide Ally. She is very passionate about her Chinese culture and very proud of her ancestral heritage and has an in-depth knowledge of the Ming and Qing Dynasty’s. The first morning we drove to the Reed Flute cave that opened to the public in 1965, called ‘the palace of art in nature’, a one hour tour about 450 meters long. It was an amazing experience to see and walk through. Next we drove to Daxu ancient town located on the east bank of Li River, a history dating back to 200 AD, 23 kms from Guilin city center with about 1.5 kms of old streets. Also there are Flagstone pavements featuring Ming and Qing dynasty style buildings with blue-black bricks and old tiles. Local residents enjoy their daily life playing mahjong and cards. Within the town we walked over the Washou bridge with around 400 years of history. There is also a Medicine shop there with a local traditional Chinese doctor doing cupping, acupuncture and feeling the pulse as well. One of my favorite attractions was the Old Chinese bank (built in Qing dynasty) and an Old Hockshop in the same building. Just a wonderful daytime spent together. 22rd,April Driving out of town once again we went on the famous Li River Cruise for a three and a half hour ferry boat tour with a delicious buffet. Amazing views with karst landscapes, people called it a ‘100-mile gallery’ like going into a painting. Also it’s the must-go highlight in Guilin with the scene of Bats welcoming guests with an Old man watching the Apple, Nine Horses Fresco Hill, 20Yuan Chinese bank note back ground view just to name a few using your imagination! A short drive later we went Scooter Bike Riding around villages and Yulong Riverbank following the footpath along the river and enjoying the mountains and river views. We actually spent two hours taking the round-trip. One of our photographic moments was the Yulong Bridge, 600 year old history. It’s just on the way taking in a good view with local people on the bridge was just worth stopping for a while. Then we motored along to the Jiuxian village, also called Old Town Village with a very traditional ancestral hall with all the villagers sharing surnames of the Li family. Old buildings from Qing dynasty and old tablets from Qing dynasty who passed the imperial examinations. This was all possible with Ally’s expert guidance. Thank you Ally!
