Donegal Castle
Visit this 550-year-old medieval Donegal Castle on a guided walking tour and step into the pages of Irish history. Strategically located near the heart of Donegal town, this remarkable stronghold once echoed with the footsteps of the mighty O'Donnell clan—one of Ireland's most influential families. As we explore its ancient walls and scenic surroundings, stories come alive, especially those of the legendary Red Hugh O'Donnell. From daring escapes to fierce battles for Irish sovereignty, his tale is one of courage, defiance, and destiny. Let the spirit of Ireland’s past inspire you as you walk in the shadows of chieftains and heroes. NOTE: Upper floors accessed by stairs.
Perched high on the serene banks of the River Eske and framed by the sweeping views of Donegal Bay lie the evocative ruins of a once-majestic 15th-century Franciscan Abbey. With its graceful Gothic arches, intricate stone carvings, and timeworn walls, this sacred site invites quiet reflection on the centuries of devotion, conflict, and community it has seen. As part of our guided walking tour, we journey through its storied past—uncovering ancient religious customs, local myths, enduring legends, and long-held secrets hidden in the silence of its cloisters. Let the spirit of this hallowed place awaken your imagination and connect you with Ireland’s rich spiritual heritage on this fully guided walking tour.

Well worth the time and money. Joe was extremely knowledgeable and delightful. He is from the area so was able to help us understand both the past and present. Lunch stop was great both in terms of food and song. Bus was state of the art. Highly recommend.

An excellent day of sightseeing covering many different aspects of of the area in Donegal. It was informative and fun. Our bus driver, Kevin shared with us many interesting facts. He offered to take photos and sang and played in the Irish pub. Our bus driver, maybe called Don, was an excellent driver and was helpful getting us on and off the bus.

Great stories and entertaining guide (Joe). Good guiding talks without too much boring babble. Fun musical entertainment at lunch.

Tour guide Kevin was outstanding. Pick up and drop off at cruise ship terminal was very convenient. Experiences were amazing and being in a smaller bus enabled us to go along the cliffs where the larger shore dxcursion buses cannot go. Highly recommend.

Joe Greene our guide was absolutely marvellous. He knew the area inside out, a lot of historical facts and even entertained us with a tune on his flute!

Great wide-ranging tour that included BOTH Donegal and Slieve League Cliffs. Ryan was a solid guide with a terrific sense of humor. Our driver Padraig did a fine job but kept having to answer phone calls from his colleagues. Operational calls from colleagues or superiors should be placed to the guide not the driver! Other than that, great tour-we fit a lot of sightseeing into a 6-7 hour tour.

Expert guide and he kept us well informed on local and Irish history. Very amusing with couple of Irish songs and even a tune of his flute! Being a small bus we were able to drive up to the view point on the cliffs thus avoiding a long to the top. Lunch in an Irish pub. Thank you Joe for a great day.
