5.00A very interesting tour of Munich's gay history. We met Sybille at Karlstor for the start of the tour. She gave us a good background of the area and why it was important, answering any questions we had. She covered numerous gay figures in Munich's history, going back to Ludwig II through contemperary figures like Freddie Mercury and Fassbinder. Munich's gay history, in contrast to Berlin or Hamburg, was very protected because it was kept so secret. One could feel safe in Munich, so long as you were discrete. Break those rules, however, and you would find yourself "Pinklisted" - and that meant all doors were closed. From Karlstor, we ventured through Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt and then through the Gay Quarter, with plenty of stories of each area. We strolled by the famous Deutsche Eike and saw the murals of Freddie and Fassbinder. Finally we ended up at Sendlingerplatz where we bid farewell to Sybille. We really enjoyed the tour and highly recommend it to others.
