We were so fortunate that Jennifer Bell was our guide. She’s knowledgeable not only about the history and highlights of the Kilauea Iki Volcano, but also the flora and wildlife ( eg pheasants, frogs, crickets) of the area. We also learned a bit about the fascinating Hawaiian mythology eg goddess Pele. Got us reading about other Hawaiian mythical deities. Highly recommend J.B. to those interested in learning about native history and life, not just rushing through social media selfies!

Jennifer was very responsive when I booked the experience, and then Yvonne, our tour guide, was terrific. Yvonne got us all so excited about volcanoes! Yvonne shared her deep knowledge of how volcanic activity follows a pattern and the tools she uses to keep track of when the next eruption is going to happen, and using her tools, we could see that Kilauea was getting closer and closer to eruption as we continued our hike! Yvonne provided a light breakfast of muffins and fruits from her home garden, and hearty, delicious sandwiches for lunch from a local deli. Yvonne checked out our party of 5 (ages 31-65) and offered a couple of options so that we could choose the best option for our level of fitness. What we did (~7 miles including the Kīlauea Iki Trail + lava tubes) was perfect for us: a challenging workout, but not so hard that we felt unsafe. Afterwards, Yvonne even texted us about the eruption so that we could come back to the park and experience it! A trip we'll remember forever!
