Most Kenya safaris happen through a car window. This one doesn't get near one. Hell's Gate on a bike, a volcanic gorge on foot, a rock pillar to climb and then horses at the base of a dormant volcano - it's a full day of moving through the landscape rather than watching it go by.
The horseback safari is the part of this trip that people talk about afterwards. The horses know the terrain and the wildlife knows the horses, which is why you end up closer to a grazing zebra than most people get on an entire safari holiday. The Rift Valley opens up around you, Longonot's rim sits above and the plains stretch out as far as you can see.
Stay the night at Fisherman's Camp and the pace shifts completely. Hippos come out of the lake after dark and graze on the lawn a few meters from your tent. The campfire goes until late. It's only 90 minutes from Nairobi but it feels about as far from the city as you can get.

Hell's Gate is one of the few Kenyan parks where you explore entirely without a vehicle - and it shows. You cycle through open plains with zebras grazing alongside the track, hike deep into Ol Njorowa Gorge through narrow obsidian walls where steam vents rise from the ground and natural hot springs bubble up at the bottom, then cycle back out. The gorge and the bicycle safari are the core of the day. On top of that, a few optional activities can be added (extra fee). Fischer's Tower - a freestanding volcanic pillar - is there to be climbed if you want the extra challenge. The horseback safari at the foot of Mount Longonot is worth serious consideration: you ride through open plains with the volcano's crater rim above you and the horses are calm around wildlife, which means zebras, eland and gazelles carry on around you as if you're not there. After Hell's Gate, a boat ride on Lake Naivasha is a natural way to end the day - hippo pods surfacing alongside the boat and fish eagles hunting overhead. The day can also turn into two. Camping at Fisherman's on the lakeshore, with the boat ride saved for the following morning.

The best trip I've ever attended! Hell's gate was absolutely gorgeous and we saw so many animals. After only 2 minutes of cycling down the road there were zebras grazing right next to us. The climbing was awesome; I had never climbed in my life and was still able to do the whole thing! Our climbing instructor was super professional and his calm and encouraging attitude calmed me down when I was a bit scared in the middle of the climb. The feeling at the top was so amazing, and the views were spectacular! While cycling to the gorges we saw giraffes, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, goundhogs, buffalos, baboons, eagles and many many zebras. The camping at lake Naivasha was super cozy. Eric is an excellent cook and he made us a delicious local dinner; beans with mashed potatoes and dessert of course. There were hippos right next to us! We were sharing stories by the campfire and I slept absolutely great in my own tent. In the morning we went kayaking and had an even more delicious breakfast with fresh fruit. Altogether it was a great 2 days trip with Eric, I felt at home at all times and it's clear that he truly cares for his clients. I'd definitely recommend it and for myself, I will absolutely be back for another tour!❤️

Absolutely magnificent day-and-a-half tour with Daring Escapes! Chock-full of delightful adventure: cycling in Hell's Gate past zebras, baboons, and giraffes, rock climbing to the top of Fisherman's Tower, and a campfire at night by the shores of Lake Naivasha with wild hippos visible! Eric was a spectacular guide and chef, everyone was super friendly. A wonderful gem of a tour!

Recommended, value for money! You can also go into the park on your own, but having a guide is definitely worth it. Amazing nature and a unique opportunity to see wildlife up close (but I guess I was pretty lucky). My guide was very nice, knowledgeable and made sure I got lots of nice photos, which is appreciated as a solo traveler

10/10 experience from start to end. Louisa and Eric provide an experience which is unforgettable and feels like having a trip with your friends. It‘s a no brainer to go with them - experience and pricewise there is nothing comparable.

I normally never write a review but I have to make an exception here; Eric and Louisa are the best guides you can ask for. They become your friend rather than you being just a client and they will plan the perfect itinerary for you according to your likes. Though I got in touch last minute, Eric and Louisa ensured that I had the most amazing weekend in Kenia with a fully packed action plan; with a boat on Lake Naivasha, a walking safari on Crescent Island, a bike ride through Hell’s gate and a hike in the famous Lion King gorge (day 1), hiking up Mt Longonot and even a horsewalk through the savanna (day 2). All with a private guide, the best tunes in their 4x4, a beautiful stay alongside the lake, and the most beautiful animal spotting throughout!

Had an amazing experience with my partner at the Hell's gate, went for a really nice bike ride with such an amazing views; we continued our excursion doing some rock climbing which was breathtaking and ended with a nice walk trough the (Canyon). Thanks so much Eric&Louisa to have planned our week with lots of different excursions and helped us to make memories that will last a lifetime 🌹

This was a great tour - we had booked last minute, but Eric made sure to take care of all the details. Climbing, biking, hiking - we did it all, and had a nice picnic lunch in the middle of all the action. Nelson, the climbing guide knows his stuff, and took really good care of my family, making some good decisions on appropriate levels of climbs, encouraging and helping when needed.

When we booked this tour with Daring Escapes and that we wanted to spend even more days around Naivasha, Louisa and Eric made a nice three-day program for us. The first day we sailed canoe, the second day to Hells gate and the last day a boat trip on the lake and a visit to Crescent Island. We camped at Fisherman's Camp, located on the lake, where we had daily visits from hippos. There is an electric fence so no safety concerns. Eric and Louisa have provided us the whole trip with transport and very varied and tasty food. The booking process went smoothly with a good understanding of the various costs and all for a reasonable price. Many thanks!
