You will begin by dressing in authentic Yabusame outfit and visiting the nearby Shinto shrine. Then, you will meet our horses and learn the fundamentals of horseback riding and arrow shooting from our skilled instructors. We will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, even beginners. You will practice your skills while forming a connection with our gentle horses, surrounded by the beautiful sight of Mt. Fuji in the background. Once prepared, participate in Yabusame challenge, shooting arrows while riding on the sacred grounds of an ancient Shinto shrine.

This unique experience blends cultural heritage, natural beauty, and the excitement of horseback archery, making it a truly unforgettable adventure all year around.

What To Expect

This experience is a beginner-friendly version of Yabusame (traditional horse-back archery) ・ Duration: about 2 hours for two participants (may vary slightly depending on group size) ・ We use native Japanese Kiso horses, which are slightly smaller than Western breeds. For safety and comfort, we recommend that the rider’s weight is within 85–90 kg. Other guests are welcome to enjoy our horse-drawn carriage ride through Fujiyoshida city or horse interaction experience instead ・ About us: the core of our mission is wellbeing, not just for our guests and horses, but as a guiding principle of everything we do. We contribute to animal welfare by providing retired horses with a second career in tourism. In Japan, horses often face limited options after retirement. By offering them a new purpose, we essentially save their lives while allowing them to thrive in a healthy environment. We also work on preserving Japan’s cultural heritage, the ancient art of Yabusame (horseback archery), which is less practiced in modern times. Together, we can preserve tradition, promote sustainability, and create a meaningful connection between humans and horses.

  • Unique and Fun Horseback Archery Experience!

The Yabusame horseback archery experience was so much fun!! Yoni and Daisuke were great teachers and a joy to talk to! They speak Japanese and English so their instruction was easy to understand. My brother and I first dressed in the tradition attire and then Yoni and Daisuke took us to the near by shrine where they taught us how to pay respects and pray correctly. We then went over to their arena where we met the horses and the Kiso horse named Sumikaze that we were going to ride. They were all very sweet and a bit sassy, especially the little Shetland pony named Beethoven! For the archery lesson, we started on the ground first and Yoni taught us how to properly shoot the arrows at the targets and once my brother and I practiced for a few minutes we then took turns riding Sumikaze and shooting the targets. Yoni lead Sumikaze for us at first while we figured out the coordination or riding, aiming, and shooting the arrows. My brother and I figured it out very quickly and soon we were taking turns riding and shooting the arrows by ourselves! My brother and I both hit the targets multiply times while riding at a walk, trot, and canter on Sumikaze! The whole experience was the highlight of our trip to Japan and we will definitely be back again! Thanks again to Yoni and Daisuke! They were so friendly and had great senses of humor! We loved talking with them! I recommend this experience to anyone who loves horses and is looking for a unique experience in japan!

Absolutely lovely experience from start to finish. As a family of riders and Japanese history enthusiasts, this was the number one activity I was excited to experience with my family and it did not disappoint. Everyone was so lovely and we really appreciated getting to experience the temple nearby as well. I also loved meeting all the rescue horses that they keep there. Will definitely be back!

What an amazing experience. I was fully prepared for the fun of the horseback archery, but loved the links to the shrine and the horses' history. My guide had an awesome sense of humour too.

A wonderful experience even if doing it solo. They have both English and Japanese speaking guides, which was great. Yoni did an amazing job explaining all the significance of the shrine, the goddess, the history of the sport of Yabusame, and introducing all of the horses. Honestly learning all about the culture was almost as much fun as the Yabusame itself. If you’re a foreigner like me you may feel a little out of place in the cultural clothes at first, but everyone is so friendly and you quickly get used to them. It’s a very unique and immersive experience and perfect place to do it at the shrine where you can meet one of the 8 holy horses in Japan (and to do it during the year of the horse, even better!) haha

Amazing experience and a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the Yabusame tradition without extensive training! The instructors were very friendly and I would highly recommend this spot while taking in the great views from Fujiyoshida!

Really had a wonderful time learning about horseback riding and archery here in Fujiyoshida. The staff/instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and kind and friendly, and we really appreciate them walking us through everything as complete novices. We got to do a little bit of everything, see the local shrine, learn a little about local culture and history, meet and feed the horses, take some practice archery shots, ride the horses, and then combine everything together at the end. Additionally, we were able to take lots of great photos to commemorate the experience as well (with some help again from the staff)! Highly recommend, thanks again so much BARIKIYA!

  • Amazing experience 10/10 would be back!

The staff is extremely friendly! You learn about the shrine and history surrounding the traditional art of Yabusame. They walked us through how to properly pay respect to the shrine and the Goddess as well as how festivals are still held to this day. Meeting the horses and getting to.see all their personalities was amazing and the staff really made it fun and personal!
