We had a wonderful time with the samurai experience. The history of the location, learning a few sword basic moves, and the meditation transported us back in time. It was truly magical and one of the highlights to our time in Kyoto

This was a highlight of our trip, and it was a great chance to learn about history and culture through a hands-on and fun experience. We learned about za-zen, got to handle a 600 year old sword and, of course, got to lean about wielding a Japanese katana. The staff, translators and instructors are all patient, professional, and knowledgeable.

If you have never swung samurai sword or worn the garb, this was a fun dress up opportunity. Held in a historic Samurai household, my 2 teens, husband snd myself really enjoyed it. It's not a private lesson, as you are in a group of 10 people, but everyone gets equal time to practice. For the price paid, it would have been better to have more than 1 tower to attempt to slice after "learning the technique". But overall a great experience and nice change up from just seeing the swords.

I enjoyed everything about this experience. From the initial dressing in samurai clothes to being instructed on 3 different ways to swing a katana and putting that training to the test on practice targets felt exciting. We also got to watch a demonstration cutting through 5 tatami mats with the katana. I got to hold a 600 year old katana while listening to some history of the samurai. We ended with some zen meditation used by the samurai to ready themselves for battle. All this took place in a real samurai house.

I booked this experience for a group of five friends, and we all absolutely loved it! Being able to hold and practice with a real katana was such a unique and unforgettable experience. The instructors were incredibly professional, patient, and did an excellent job teaching us the proper techniques while making everyone feel comfortable and safe. One of the best surprises was that the experience also included professional photos, which made for amazing keepsakes. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Japan..whether you're traveling with friends, family, or as a couple. It was definitely one of the best highlights of our trip

The overall experience was great and I highly recommend it. We started with a history lesson (during which we got to hold a katana that is 650 years old), then had a workshop of sorts on zen meditation and its relationship to the samurai, and then we had our actual lil training and practice experience. The sensei was great and who doesn't enjoy cutting things with a sword? We had awesome pictures taken too, some which were quite funny. The overall ambiance was great, and the gals who acted as the assistants and translators were lovely. Can't recommend this experience enough.

Excellent Samurai experience. The session takes place at an authentic samurai home. The two samurai masters who led the experience were amazing. Their instructions and the history of the samurai are shared by English speaking assistants. Overall, a 5/5 experience including every student having an opportunity to demonstrate their quickly learned skills!
