The Lake Dunstan Cycleway is the most exciting thing to be added to the New Zealand Cycling landscape in a long time. This ride is an extension of the hugely popular Otago Rail Trail.
The Central Otago region is a beautiful place to visit on its own, but this new ride adds another element to your sightseeing and adventure activity.
This ride is not recommended for beginners or for riders that are not competent or confident on a bike. There are challenging sections and caution and common sense is required to really enjoy this fun day out.

What To Expect
Ride the incredible new Lake Dunstan Cycleway between Cromwell and Clyde. This is one of New Zealands greatest rides, with the engineers putting in a cycleway that is something to behold. Experience the cliff clip ons, take in the amazing Central Otago views, enjoy the ride. You need to be a confident and competent rider to safely complete this ride, we do not recommend this experience for beginners. Please be aware, we require a minimum of 4px to operate Lake Dunstan, please email us to enquire if you group is less than 4.

5.00This was such a fun activity! It is not for the faint of heart ❤️. I thought it was easy at first, but the sharp turns, narrow paths and boardwalks attached to the rock walls made it a big adventure. And gorgeous views all along the way! Thank goodness for e-bikes!

5.00This was an absolute highlight. We loved every minute. We rode acoustic bikes and we are pretty fit-it’s not for the unfit unless you are on an ebike. It’s very exposed so make sure you are well protected from the sun. There are a few places to stop & get food & drink along the way. Lots of toilets along the trail too. We really loved the views, bridges, ledges and meeting others along the way. It’s a must do while in the area.

1.00The scenery was lovey but the equipment failed. Firstly I was told the bike would easily get all the way. After 2/3rds way through battery dead flat and what was a relaxing bike with wife was a solo effort as she was cold waiting for me - so not a couples experience. Then when having to pedal 100% manually the chain would skip gears. Hmmmm!! Business was not interested and bookme gave a measly 4% credit on our experience. I'm only 80kg so not a huge wait. Owner of business did not seem fussed on acknowledging issue and simple pointed me to Bookme for refund. we got a 4% refund. Buyer beware, as the gear is older than some other providers.

5.00What a great ride. Wonderful track with a slight challenge. The bikes were great, easy to use for our first time using an e-bike and very comfortable. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We opted for a drop off in Cromwell and biked back to Clyde. Really enjoyed myself, it was great following the river down to the dam.

2.00We booked this tour due to the recommendations here and were overall quite disappointed The shuttle vehicle did not start that day which could happen anytime and the driver also was very nice however we did not even get a map or phone contact and were quite lost. Yes we could have asked for it or waited for another shuttle bus but we were already over half an hour late and wanted to make the most of that day We did get a 10% refund for the shuttle issue All in all we would not book it again, especially not for this high price

5.00Bruce was the consummate transport guide with a depth of knowledge about the trip, routes and stops. Super interesting during the shuttle up to our starting point too. Very low key and accommodating, with a “can do” attitude which was inspiring as we ventured off onto this trek. Highly recommend this outfit!

4.00This is a great trip and well worth the time, money and effort. Great views and very well maintained track. Using an e-bike made this a very achievable ride for this 63 year old finishing the ride still being able to breath and walk and the seat was comfortable enough not to kill my butt. There is a great coffee and burger boat tied up at the edge of the lake right beside the track which is well worth stopping at.

5.00We hired e-bikes for the first time. WOW what a spectacular day out. We had a very helpful hire company - She bikes He Bikes and were well informed before we arrived. Our bikes were adjusted to suit us and all staff were knowledgeable and helpful. If you have some bike experience - I recommend this ride
