Recognized by Birdlife international as a bird rich area, with more than 300 species recorded, Munsiyari is to Kumaon what Chopta is to Garhwal, , Munsiyari nestled in the middle himalayas of Kumaon division, in Uttarakhand ,close to the greater himalayas , is a perfect place for high altitude birds like Monals,Satyr Tragopan, cheer pheasants , koklaas pheasants , laughing thrushes , finches , Accentors and more.
This 5 night 6 day tour organized by Travelderness aims to showcase the scenic, picturesque beauty of this quaint little town of Munsiari along with its rich bird life to all its participants. Target species in this tour would include satyr tragopan, Monals, Cheer pheasants , Koklaas pheasants, speckled wood pigeons, Finches, spotted laughing thrush, Golden bush robin, fire fronted serin etc
Through our explorations and tours conducted in the last three years to this beautiful hamlet, we are well versed with the avifauna of the place and the place itself !

Pick up from Kathgodam station early morning, and start our long journey towards munisyari ( approx. 250 km) , breakfast at Almora, and lunch at chaukori , As we stop for birding at various points along the way. Brown dipper , crested kingfisher at Kainchi dham and Thrushes at Chaukori. Post lunch , we head towards munsiyari, with a brief stopover at Birthi falls to enjoy the Majestic waterfall. Late evening we check into the hotel, followed by dinner .

early start at 5 a.m , as we head towards Betuli dhar Forest , at an altitude of around 2600m Primarily to look for Monal, cheer phesant , koklaas and finches, the Forest around the road is also good for Woodpeckers, tits, warblers, laughing thrushes and wood pigeons. We scan the area, exploring and photographing till 10 a.m and head back to munisyari town for breakfast, Post breakfast , and a two hour rest, lunch , as we make our way to Nanda devi temple for some afternoon birding, Primarily looking for finches, Accentores, fiire fronted serin, eastern goldfinch, golden bush robin etc. Late evening we head back to the hotel for dinner and rest

Early start as this time we make way towards Sarmoli villlage to again look for finches, Scimitar babblers, Wren babblers, Bar throated siva, Yuhinas and thrushes. Back to munsiari for breakfast, Lunch followed by afternoon birding near Betuli bend specifically for Grossbeaks, Steppe eagle and bearded vultures

early morning start ( with packed breakfast ) towards Khaliya top primarily to look for Satyr tragopan , This exercise will require the guests to trek up for about an hour, looking to get close to the habitat that the tragopan prefers. The area arround is also good for winter wrens., woodpeckers, Babblers, wren babblers, Spotted laughing thrush etc. ,Back to Munsiari for lunch followed by another excursion in the afternoon to Betuli dhar for other high altitude birds

Early morning birding at madkote till 11, to look for birds found near water or at a lowera latitude during winters, whihc could include chestnut headed tesia, Laughing thrushes, Warblers, Maroon oriole to name a few . Back to the resort for Breakfast and lunch will be followed by another session at college road to look for left out species .

Morning birding at Nanda devi temple looking for more photos of beautiful rosefinch, Accentors, serin and goldfinch , and post breakfast we make our way back to Kathgodam for overnight train to Delhi

5.00The trip was meticulously planned and executed to perfection to suite our requirements of birding. Icing on the cake was birding while it was snowing. Our guide knew all the happening birding hotspots and the bird species and that was a great help. I was able to see some very exotic species that I had hoped for and some more. Got nice pics too. The tour operator even accommodated our last minute request to add a stop during the return leg. Perfect trip. I have already done 3 trips with this organisation and plan to do more. Just waiting for the pandemic to be over.

5.00I had opportunity to join 2 Birding tours of Himalayan range with Mr Sachin. His Personalized attention to each member and detailed arrangements from the pick up point to drop point is his trademark,with best of the vehicles, driver and bird guide mobilized through out the tour for the group.His attention for the bird hot spots, time of visit, food and drink during the visit add to it his personal knowledge and interest in wildlife makes it more joyful Above all his humility and over anxious en devour to accommodate everyone's requirement makes it very personal and comfortable and joyful tour
Birding tour of Nainital area - Bhimtal and Pangot

5.00My wife and I had a very enjoyable few days birding in the Nainital area with Sachin during March 2020 as part of our month long Nivalink tour of northern India. Sachin picked us up from Pantnagar Airport and drove us through attractive scenery around Nainital to Bhimtal where we stayed 2 nights in Fisherman’s Lodge, beautifully situated beside the lake. The birding around the lake, the village and nearby woodland was very productive. Sachin then drove us up to Pangot at 2000 masl where we stayed at Aranya Viraat Cottages for 2 nights, again providing excellent, but different birding opportunities, many in the grounds, but also in other terrains and birding hotspots nearby. We were well looked after by Sachin throughout and he was very determined to search out key species eg Cheer Pheasant, to the envy of other birders in the area, and overall around 100 species, generally with good views. Of course the scenery is fabulous, especially views of the Himalayas near Sigri. We found Sachin to be a very personable and knowledgeable guide, and would not hesitate to use his services when we return to northern India.
