The hike is moderate, and the duration depends on where the muskox are that day. Our enthusiastic guides will give you insight into the area's flora and fauna. There is a chance to see birds of prey, reindeer and beautiful lichens during the hike.

Can I join without a car?
- Yes, ask us when you book and we may provide transport from Oppdal, we have limited seats in the guide car.
How close can we get the Muskox?
- The safety distance is 200m.
What do I need to bring?
- Bring clothes acording to the weather, waterproof shoes with ancle support and food/water for the day.

5.00We had an amazing safari, hiked through beautifull countryside, saw several Musk Ox and had a great tour guide with Knut who s knowledge and enthuisiasm were a major addition to everyone s enjoyment. It was a bit wet and cold at times but we had great vusability regardless and everyone was well prepared.

5.00The walk had some parts that were very steep and rocky. The information on Tripadvisor suggested that it was an easy accessible tour but we experienced it as a bit harder than that.

5.00On May 28, 2026, we conducted a nature tour to see the musk oxen. We had high expectations regarding the tour of these ancient animals. This highly interesting nature tour was led by the very competent guide Erlend, an employee of Oppdal Safari. We experienced unique moments and, thanks to Erlend, were able to take the most beautiful pictures of the musk oxen. We decided on that day that we would definitely book another tour to see the musk oxen through Oppdal Safari next winter. The service was totally fine! Thank you for that.

5.00My 2 day Musk Ox safari was absolutely amazing! My guide, Morten was extremely knowledgeable, kind and truly looked after me on the mountain, as we had some challenging windy weather. He ensured I didn’t fall and safety was always first including when and how we approached the animals. We managed to see the Musk Ox on both days and to be able to photograph them was truly a privilege. I had a fantastic time and the safari exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend Oppdal safari!
