After walking through the lively shopping arcade, we visit Kofuku-ji Temple to admire its beautiful five-story pagoda and take photos. We then head to Todai-ji Temple, home to the impressive Great Buddha statue. Along the way, a local guide shares the history of the temples and fascinating insights into Japanese Buddhism.
Next, we walk up to Nigetsu-do Hall, located on the hillside of Todai-ji, where you can enjoy panoramic views over Nara. The tour continues with visits to traditional souvenir shops before heading toward Kasuga Shrine.

Summer in Japan is very hot and humid, so we recommend that you bring water and wear a hat to prevent heat stroke.

Japan’s climate has become more extreme, with summer temperatures reaching up to 40°C (110°F) and winter lows dropping to -5°C (20°F). Please prepare accordingly for the tour.
What To Expect
Kofuku-ji Temple 5 Stories Pagoda
We will be the iconic Kofuku-ji Temple, renowned for its stunning five-story pagoda. This ornately carved pagoda was built by the Fujiwara clan in 730. Today it is an iconic historical landmark of Nara.
Todai-ji Temple
Explore Todaiji Temple Main Hall and Nandaimon. As you approach, you will be greeted by two imposing guardian statues called Kongorikishi. Beyond them is the Great Buddha, a sight that never ceases to fascinate visitors. During this tour, your local guide will share fascinating stories and interesting insights into Japanese Buddhism and the significance of historical temples!

5.00We booked the private 1/2 day tour Yuuki was an incredible guide! We immediately felt a great rapport with her and her British accent was superb for an American couple. We spent 5 hours with her seeing the sights of Nara. Not only was she able to answer every question we posed( we were both history majors) she translated everything we asked her to Lunch was exceptional and she guided me to the perfect souvenir shop which had exactly what I had been looking for all over Japan for the past week Had the deer food in her bag the entire time so fed the deer throughout the day Would be the perfect guide for any primary English speaking tour esp with teens Caveat— blond hair and piercings, which reminded me of my kids at home. Not the guide for anyone who would be uncomfortable with that appearance. She was brilliant and recommend her enthusiastically I consider this tour to be “easy” in degree, but there are quite a few stairs and some uphill walking. Saw many families with strollers but no wheelchairs

5.00Our time with Hide and the Nara half-day tour was great. Hide was a fun and friendly guide. Not only does he know a lot about the sites and history, he’ll also show you where to get the best photos (and he’ll take plenty for you). The traditional lunch and deer in the park were definitely highlights too. We loved our visit to Nara and definitely recommend booking.

5.00Simply stated, Reiko was the best guide we’ve ever had on any tour we’ve ever taken. She’s very friendly and knowledgeable. We visited a number of temples and shrines and got a historical education along the way. Reiko also set up a great lunch in a well established authentic restaurant in an old town. She took care of us from the start to the end of the tour. I would highly recommend her for your tour as well.
