  • Highlight of our trip

Unfortunately due to the recent cyclone we were unable to do both gorges, so the tour was reduced by 30mins and we saw one gorge only. Scenery is spectacular particularly at sunset when the rock comes alive with colour. This remains a highlight of our trip! Guide was good but as was not wearing a microphone we were not able to hear all the commentary which is a shame. Food: bubbles on arrival, share plate of entrees all lovely. Main course was a choice of steak or barramundi. Unfortunately the barramundi did not come with a sauce and was a bit boring. Finished with pavlovas. Arrived back at the dock when it was very dark. As there isn’t any lights, finding our way back to the first carpark was interesting! Older couple walking back with us were not happy. Would have been good to have been told to park in the second carpark perhaps. Overall a memorable experience and one we highly recommend.

  • Very enjoyable dinner on the waters of Katherine Gorge.

A fantastic tour, the staff were all very very friendly and helpful. The food was five star and the wines (although limited) were very good. Marli, a young local girl, was our boat captain and tour guide with all the information. She was happy to answer all of our questions. We now have some great photos of the picturesque gorge and more great memories.

The dinner was divine - surrounded by beautiful scenery. Given recent floods, we only did one gorge, but even so, it was perfect.

  • Don't change the time it is meant to be sunset cruise .

Was very disappointed that they changed the time for a later start and we only had about half an hour of day light to see the gorge. I understand that there has been floods and could only go so far. If we had left at 4:30 pm there would have been plenty of light to see the beauty of the gorge. To be parked for over an hour to eat isn't what we expected of the cruise. This was to be a one in life time experience. The food was good and staff were great

This tour is not currently running. Only one gorge is open. This tour is supposed to run for 3 & 1/2 hours. It will be reduced to 2 & 1/2, with a small refund of $40. The cruise actually only went for 2 hours. The food was amazing, and there is lots of potential that this could be great. If you are thinking of doing this, make sure it is operating.

We were so disappointed in this tour. We booked for the 3.5 hour sunset dinner cruise covering 2 Gorges. Was advised a few days after payment of $269 per person, that the cruise will be in 1 Gorge only due to previous flooding, and the cruise would be reduced to 2.5 hours with a refund provided for the shorter cruise. Without knowing what the refund amount would be, but considering a 2 hour cruise is $139, figured a refund of around $70 per person would be reasonable. The refund processed was only $40 per person. We started cruising around 5:15pm, after an initial briefing. We really didn’t do much cruising, instead we just remained in the one location for the majority of the time. There were around 19 people on the boat. There is only one drink included in the ticket cost, any other drinks you need to pay for. The sipping sparkling wine whilst cruising is only if you drink exceptionally slow or you purchase your own. The food itself was the only redeeming factor of this activity. Troy the chef cooked up some fabulous food, which we wouldn’t normally try ourselves. At the end of the cruise, he came around and had a chat to everyone on the cruise. This review in no way reflects upon the professionalism of the chef or the quality of the meal. We returned to the jetty at 7:30pm, so our 3:5 hour cruise, that was reduced to a 2:5 hour cruise was actually only a 2 hour cruise if that. Our intimate and luxury cruise, with a maximum of 10 people, was really 19 people. Sipping sparkling wine whilst enjoying dinner came at our own expense as the one free glass of sparkling wine provided was when we first boarded. I couldn’t recommend this cruise as I do not feel it was value for money at all, nor did it deliver what it claimed it would. I also don’t get that they are still advertising this cruise for the 2 Gorges when it is not available.

We had such a great time on this Sunset Dinner Boat Tour. We boarded the first boat at 4.30pm and our very able and interesting tour guide and skipper took us up the first gorge. I wish I'd caught his name as he was full of knowledge, always had something interesting to tell us and could manoeuvre the boat on a pinhead! The scenery was just stunning. Once we'd got going we could walk around the boat to get in the shade (there was a roof over most of the boat), take photos and just generally see the view from different sides. After about 25 minutes we reached the end of the first gorge. We'd learned from our skipper that there are thirteen gorges in Nitmiluk National Park but only the first three have boat tours on. In the wet season the water is a lot higher so you can get a boat more easily from one to another. We were there at the end of September which is the end of the dry season so you have to walk a little to get from one gorge to the next where a different boat awaits you. We had about 20 minutes to do the walk across which was short and only took about 5-10 minutes. There was rock art to see and the scenery was just incredible. This walk was one of my favourite bits. The path is on sand and rock and is pretty flat. There were rubber mats on some bits so it was always a good surface to walk on and there was a tank of cold drinking water available at the start and finish by the boats. The second boat took us up gorge two where the scenery became even more stunning. Once at the end of gorge two we turned around and came back to the bit where we walked across the rocks again. By then it was 6pm and an hour and a half into our cruise. A third board with a new crew, chef and serving staff awaited us once back in gorge one. It has tables set out for dinner. We spent the next two hours cruising up and down gorge one while being served the most delicious food and ordering drinks from the onboard bar. The sun set during this and it all like a tiny piece of heaven. We loved the scenery, the sunset, chatting to the other couple on our table, the food, the drinks - even the heat! The food was delicious. We had a glass of fizzy wine to greet us and were sat on a table of four with another couple we'd chatted to while awaiting the boat at the start. Whoever was organising the seating was obviously keeping a good eye on who was with who, or who got on well with who, in order to seat us at the tables. We got a big platter of starters to share which was Char Grilled Kangaroo, Kakadu Plum Crocodile, Miso Eggplant, Beetroot Hummus and Smoked Chicken. Served with delicious sourdough bread and native thyme butter. It was our first taste of kangaroo and crocodile which was fun - and tasty! We then had a palate cleanser drink of Salmon Gum and Hibiscus Iced Tea. For main course we had a choice between Barramundi, Crusted Eye Fillet Steak and a Leek Vegetarian Dish. We had the Barramundi and Crusted Eye Fillet Steak between us and both dishes were excellent. Dessert was another large shared platter with Orange Myrtle Flourless Cake, Hibiscus Sauce, Davidson Plum Meringue, Wattleseed Chocolate Creme and Rivermint Powder. Again all were delicious and very impressive to get such a high standard of food on a boat. This was all finished with Lindt Chocolates while paying our bar bills (wine/beer drinks were extra). Finally docking in the dark at 8pm. This was a fantastic experience and we are so glad we did it. We did another cruise two weeks later as part of our journey back to Darwin from Alice Springs on The Ghan. It was going to be the same tour of the first two gorges - but because it was 40C that time the tour was cut to just gorge one so we were doubly pleased that we'd seen the second gorge on this Sunset Dinner trip. I'd definitely recommend a tour which includes as many of the three gorges as you can. Gorge two was even more amazing than gorge one. We didn't see gorge three so now are wondering if that is even more amazing!

This is a fabulous experience. We saw wallaroos and various birds. But the star was the beautiful Katherine Gorge with the tranquil water and steep rocky cliffs. Our guide was very informative. There's a 400m walk between the 2 sections of the gorge. The rock art was a bit difficult to see behind some bushes. The walk itself wasn't difficult and there were some rubber mats on the smooth areas. The meal was delicious and included crocodile and kangaroo. We saw the sunset but were thrilled to see the full harvest moon rise over the water.
