Nanzen-ji Temple
Nanzenji is a major Rinzai Zen temple known for its grand gate and the red-brick aqueduct built during the Meiji era. The archways surrounded by seasonal trees create a stunning backdrop, especially during autumn. Walking through its grounds offers a peaceful glimpse into Kyoto’s Zen heritage and natural beauty.
Set in a beautifully renovated Kyoto townhouse, this café offers carefully brewed specialty coffee. Let’s take a cup to go and enjoy it as we stroll along the Philosopher’s Path. It’s a lovely way to experience the local rhythm, just like the Kyotoites do.

We had a great tour with Kazumasa. He was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. He was also very helpful and had great recommendations regarding things to do and places to eat in the area. We would highly recommend the tour.

It’s called the peaceful tour and it was definitely that. All the sites are Buddhist temples with quiet, zen-like atmospheres and serene gardens. The walk along the Philosopher’s Path is too. My guide Kota was friendly and nice. He mentioned it was only the second tour he’d led, and his inexperience kinda showed. I was the only person on the tour and it sometimes felt like I was leading it and he was there to correct me if I started walking in the wrong direction. But nothing negative overall to say about him. A couple things to be aware of: there is quite a bit of walking involved, and none of the admission fees to the temples are included in the price of the tour.

Very beautiful experience . I joined a walking tour in Kyoto and really enjoyed the experience. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the city’s history, pointing out small details in temples and shrines that I would have missed on my own. Very helpful person too
