Artisanal Cheese Factory – Discover how traditional Azeitão cheese is made by hand. Follow the full process, from heating raw sheep’s milk sourced from the slopes of the Arrábida mountains, to the use of wild thistle flower as a natural coagulant, curing and washing techniques.

5.00John was a wonderful guide who took us first to the cheese factory. A small mom and pop operation with characters straight out of central casting (in the best way possible!). A lot of fun to see the process. Next a tour of the local winery, with a private wine and cheese tasting. All delicious! We went from there to make tiles, in an old house type place, which was great. We then drove to a seaside town and had lunch next to the beach with a beautiful view. We finished at the Christ statue which has an amazing view of Lisbon. Again, John was an informative and gregarious guide who took great care of us. Highly recommended!

5.00Our Tour with Joao was exceptional - we recommend Portugallium tours without reservation. Our tour was unique and blended learning of the area, wine making, cheese making and culture with an exceptional pairing tasing experience. We explored a local tile craft shop and hand painted our own tiles - our best souvenirs from Portugal! We ended with panoramic views from the Sanctuary of Christ the King. Finally, in a city teaming with tours and tour guides João and Portugallium Tours are unique as expert and accredited guides. Their knowledge of the area, the history and culture are a level above the “crowd” in of tour providers in Lisbon. Do yourself a favor and book with this company.

5.00Our Guide Joao was amazing and arrived in an air conditioned luxury van for our group of seven women. He was charming, personable and very informative about the history of Portugal and had a good rapport with the artisan’s that we visited. The cheese and wine tour included a pairing which was my favorite activity. Our tile painting experience was fun and turned out better than I expected. I highly recommend Joao and enjoyed his commentary and comfortable van🩵

5.00My fiance and I had a great time on this tour. We got to do so many things in one day. None of our other tours had this variety of unique experiences. The car was comfortable. Our guide Joao was very friendly and went the extra mile to make sure we had a great time. Even dropping off the tiles we painted at hotel the next day, which was a huge help. I highly recommend this tour.
Great Experience!! Great way to see something outside of the tourist attractions and experience Portugal!

5.00This was an amazing experience. Not a normal touristy visit. We had a great day at the winery, cheese factory and the tile shop. The tours were given by experienced people who actually worked there and not just did tours. Our guide gave us lots of great information about Portugal and the area. 5.00My fiancée and I did the Lisbon cheese factory, wine tasting, and tile painting tour with João. We were received at each stop by a friendly and knowledgeable guide where we learned how queijo de azeitão is made from start to finish, got to see all of the operations of a local winery and tried an incredible sampling of wines and cheeses, and watched as skilled tile painters meticulously hand craft beautiful tiles. We had lunch in the gorgeous seaside town of Sesimbra and ended our tour at the Cristo Rei to enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon. Many tours in a city so busy can feel rushed and disjointed, but João executed this tour perfectly from start to finish. If you want a more personalized, peaceful tour experience at a comfortable pace that lets you truly take in your surroundings, I highly recommend booking with João at Portugallium

5.00The tour was amazing, it was so great to get off the beaten path and see the inner workings of a popular cheese factory and then expertly paired with local wines. The highlight was the handmade tile factory with painting experience! We can’t wait to see what treasures our family created. João was incredibly insightful and showed us some very special places. We will most certainly use him again!
