This route leads to the Central Plateau, one of the most pristine areas of the Azores, where the altitude reveals a landscape dominated by endemic vegetation, volcanic cones, and a unique atmosphere.
The highlight of the experience is the Lagoa do Capitão and Lagoa da Seca — places of mystical beauty, surrounded by pure nature, where the silence and the landscape create an unforgettable atmosphere, with privileged views of Pico Mountain and neighboring islands.

We had the most fantastic private tour with Daniel! He showed us some of the coolest parts of the island and was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the island, wine making in Pico, and answered every cultural question we asked – even making us aware of local celebrations happening the same evening and next day. I truly think it might be my personal favorite wine tour we’ve ever done!

I had an amazing private tour of Pico Island with Daniel and honestly could not have asked for a better guide. He is incredibly friendly, relaxed, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about his island and the Azores. You can tell immediately that he truly loves what he does, even though he is just starting out as a tour guide. Daniel is originally from Pico, which made the experience feel very authentic and personal. He shared so many interesting stories about the island’s history, volcanic landscape, geology, and the unique wine culture that makes Pico so special. His explanations about the volcanic terrain and how it shaped the wine region were especially fascinating. It never felt like a “standard tour,” but more like exploring the island with a very knowledgeable local friend. What also makes Daniel unique is that he is multi-talented. Besides guiding tours, he owns his own wine shop, works as a DJ, organizes events, and is a musician. That creative energy really comes through during the tour and gives it a very relaxed, genuine vibe. He was also very flexible and adapted the day to our interests and wishes, which we really appreciated. The entire experience felt easygoing, personal, and full of great conversations and beautiful places. If you are visiting Pico and want a tour that feels authentic, informative, and relaxed, we highly recommend Daniel. I’m sure he has a great future ahead of him as a guide. 🌋🍷🎶
