Yokohama is an incredible waterside port city steeped in history and packed with fun attractions. Only 45 minutes from Tokyo a day trip to Yokohama is a must-do. This Yokohama tour is a carefully curated mix of history, culture and food.

Over the course of this full-day tour, you will explore Yokohama through the eyes of the immigrants who arrived into Japan, through the port in the mid-1800s.

This private tour includes a boat ride around the harbour, a visit to the historic Hikawa Maru (early Japanese ocean liner) and a traditional Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.

In addition, you will explore Yamate Hill, a residential district where the early western settlers lived, and Minato Mirai; the waterfront district home to the Red Brick Warehouse, a boutique shopping outlet where we can pick up some unique souvenirs.

This tour requires you to be physically fit. You will be walking about 10 km over the course of the day. We will be going at a slow pace across mostly flat land but you do need to be in good health and be able to walk up and down stairs.

Our private Yokohama food, history, and culture tour with Miko was an absolutely wonderful experience. This tour was booked directly through our travel agent, and everything was seamlessly arranged from the start. From beginning to end, the experience was thoughtfully planned and executed. Miko was incredibly knowledgeable and clearly did her research—especially when it came to finding the exact foods we were hoping to try in Chinatown. Every stop felt intentional and tailored to our interests. We really appreciated how organized the tour was. We stayed perfectly on schedule, and Miko even made reservations in advance for our soufflé pancakes, which made the experience stress-free and enjoyable. It was clear she put a lot of care into the details. Beyond her expertise, Miko was genuinely warm and engaging. She shared parts of her personal history with us, which added a meaningful and personal touch to the tour. It felt less like a scripted experience and more like exploring Yokohama with a thoughtful local friend. She also went above and beyond by taking photos of us at all the major sites we visited—something we’ll truly treasure. And as a final, heartfelt gesture, she made each of us a piece of origami as a souvenir. It was such a lovely and memorable touch. We would absolutely book another tour with Miko the next time we’re in Yokohama, especially for a longer stay. Highly recommended!
