Fun and unique experience on our first full day in Iceland. Very different than all the tropical snorkeling we’ve done. Water was so clear and blue and you can drink it! Our guide, Emile, was great!

Wear a light base layer. Expect to get a little wet on your shirt sleeves and maybe collar. Don’t wear a hoodie!

A truly unique experience. Our guides were supportive and encouraging throughout. Some info/thoughts which might help others: The only parts of me which got wet were my hands (and slightly up my arms) and my lips. Anything you’re wearing under your suit will stay dry and be fine. I wore leggings and a thermal top. You get a dry suit and another warm suit to put on (under the dry suit). I really feel the cold but it was fine. The suit feels tight especially around the head and neck when you first wear it but that’s soon forgotten when you’re in the water. The guides help you put the suit and equipment on so please don’t worry if you’ve never used it before. The guides communicate really well once you’re in the water so will keep you on track. All in all - a really unique experience.

The photo of the snorkeler touching two plates that is on every ad is false. You will wear a dry suit that prevents you from submerging. Instead, you will spend 1.5 hours getting gear on and off, standing in a long line while very hot and uncomfortable for a 25 minute snorkel. (If you have done a cenote dive, it is the same experience without the hassle.)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely unforgettable experience! As two girls from Scotland visiting Iceland, snorkelling in Silfra was high on our bucket list, and it exceeded every expectation. The water is unbelievably clear – so clear that it genuinely feels like you're floating through air rather than water. Swimming between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates is such a unique experience, and the colours and underwater scenery are breathtaking. A special mention has to go to our guide, Emille. He was funny, knowledgeable and incredibly professional throughout the entire experience. One of us was quite nervous beforehand, but Emille took the time to reassure us, explain everything clearly and make us feel completely safe from start to finish. His calm approach and sense of humour really helped turn nerves into excitement. For anyone who is unsure about booking because they don't have much snorkelling experience, don't let that put you off. Neither of us are experienced snorkellers and one of us was particularly nervous, but the experience was far more accessible than we expected. The dry suit keeps you warm and buoyant, meaning you can simply relax and float while taking in the incredible views below. The guides explain everything thoroughly before you enter the water and stay close by throughout. A few tips from first-timers: • Don't panic when the cold water first touches your face – you get used to it surprisingly quickly. • Trust the buoyancy of the dry suit; you float effortlessly. • Relax and take your time – this isn't a race. • Listen carefully during the safety briefing as it answers most of the questions you might have. • Wear warm layers underneath your dry suit and bring warm clothes for afterwards. • Most importantly, if you can swim, you can absolutely do this experience. This was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland and something we'll be talking about for years to come. If you're considering booking Silfra snorkelling, stop thinking about it and just do it – you won't regret it!

What an incredible experience. I was terrified to do this but it was honestly easy. I thought I’d freeze to death but It was actually pleasant. The wetsuit was uncomfortable, but I can do anything for an hour.
