Excellent day trip from Melbourne which exceeded our expectations. Stuart was a very knowledgeable guide and made sure we got the most out of our trip. Visiting Sovereign Hill is like stepping back in time and learning about both the gold mining industry and the harshness of daily life during that time for miners and their families. The visit was both entertaining and informative.

Fantastic experience, booked 2 tours with Explore Australia and would happily book another with them. Sovereign Hill is a must if travelling to Victoria, such a good insight in to this historic place. A massive shoutout to our tour guide Michael, who amazing from the start of the journey. He made sure our group were given priority and didn't let us miss out on anything, thanks Michael.

Our tour guide Lachy was so informative and a great driver, however the people on the tour with us weren’t the greatest people to travel with as many of them were very sick and also they rocked up to the bus after we were supposed to leave which is uncourteous to other travellers

Loved every bit of the trip. The whole town setup feels like you’ve traveled back in time. Our guide Gary, was very patient and an amazing host. So was Debbie, our kind lady from the 1800s who showed us the most of the town.

We loved the narrative and sense of field on this underground journey - the guides were infectious and the historical details were excellent. The whole experience was real and immersive, with no fancy gimmicks. However, there was a sudden light-out during the trip that surprised our children and affected the experience to some extent. One small suggestion: Clearer, unified reminders of sudden darkness on the booking page, at ticket offices and in pre-departure briefings, with simple "family/sensory cues." Playing a short preview video at the entrance and clearly marking the stepless route or "skip this paragraph" option will help parents and sensory-sensitive visitors make informed choices. We are grateful that the staff came to care afterwards. Overall, it's still an attractive visit, and we still recommend it - just watch out for the lights-out part of the moment in advance if you're bringing younger children or someone with a sudden change of light sensitivity.
