My family did a similar tour with Mountain Goat Tours 10 years ago. We booked the same tour again this time as we enjoyed the previous day trip despite the weather condition. Today's trip was amazing, thanks to the good weather and our highly professional and warm guide, Dave. He took us to scenic spots and shared his knowledge about Windermere's past and present. He kept the time well and we thoroughly enjoyed his entertaining stories. Thanks very much, Dave.

This was the second Mountain Goat Tour that I, my wife and friends took, and it was just as bad as the Beatrix Potter Half Day tour we did with Mountain Goat. Again, I looked at the reviews before booking and it looked good but we soon found out is wasn't like the experience we were hoping for. The buses that Mountain Goat use are advertised as luxury Mercedes but it was obvious from this tour that all Mercedes are not born (or bought) equal. I have been on a lot of tours all over the world and luxury minibuses are very nice. The one we ended up on was nothing like that, bottom end, budget. The bus was full and on a very hot day (granted there was a heatwave but never the less) it felt cramped, crowded and sweaty. I don't know if the air con wasn't working or just very poor but the whole time we were on the bus it was roasting. Just to make matters worse, we ended up sitting on the side of the bus where the sun was the most, we roasted, no blinds or rotation or anything! It was like torture but I did feel sorry for the driver because he must have been hot too. We couldn't hear what was being said and my wife's friend started to get motion sickness despite taking her medication to prevent it. I have to say I feel very angry at being let down so badly twice by Mountain Goat Tours and I would not encourage anyone to go with them after my experience and the expectations they built up about the tours I went on.

We had a great day viewing the fells and lakes, of the Lake District National Park. Our Mountain Goat Tours guide Stef was very knowledgeable and provided detailed information about all the areas. He's a great driver and timed our stops perfectly. We were pleased with thel easy going overview of the Lake district

Jason the tour driver guide made an effort before we even started off to get to know all the passengers and took care to accommodate each person’s requests/needs throughout the day. He was very knowledgeable about each area and place we travelled through or stopped off at. The scenery was beautiful, the villages we drove through were quaint and the country roads added to the charm of the day. I would recommend this tour to other visitors to this region.

Guided Tour - May 2026 Jane was our tour guide. She did a wonderful job of giving us insights about the place and the events that happened over the centuries (esp. around mining in that area; the building of reservoirs and taking the water to Manchester). We had been on our feet most of the time when we were in England. On this tour - we spent quite a bit of time in the coach as we meandered through Lake District. The typical pitty-patty rain of England did create a little interesting moments, but nothing that significant. I had an expectation of stopping at more lakes - since the headline was ten lakes spectacular. That's not the case here. We did stop by at a few lakes or some scenic view points to see the lakes from the hills. As a tour it was very good and met my expectations, even though it was different from what I expected. The scenery as we drove around, stopped by was really amazing. It was worth the time we spent. Then there was all this some little nuggets of data - about Wordsworth, his role with the train stopping at Windermere!, the Grasmere Gingerbread family and the recipe, the various mines. And then there was this whole story about Beatrix Potter, her bequeathing all her 14 farms to National Trust on the condition they use it for rearing Herdwick sheep. We did stop at a mine in Honister Pass. They do have a tour of the mines. However, we did not have the time to do that tour of the mine (don't know if it was a good thing or not!) It was fun to see the Castlerigg Stone Circle, as we did not go to Stonehenge. Due to some road work - the traffic from Ambleside to Windermere literally crawled!! Never faced this anywhere else in all our trip. This is obviously beyond the control of the tour operator. Jane was extremely knowledgeable and we had a constant flow of information from her. She does this tour only once a week - and we were glad we made it to that. Thank you Jane! Mountain Goat: I wish you had a two-day tour option as well... It would have been worth it.

Excellent tour of the Lake District, with pick up and drop off arranged from Bowness pier. Stef, our tour guide, was absolutely fantastic and very professional. A local, brought up in the area, he had a wealth of local and historic knowledge and made the tour very informative and enjoyable. Safety was key and well managed and the way Stef calmly managed the 16 seater minibus through the single passes was excellent. Overall a thoroughly very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend this tour

This tour is a fantastic way to see the very best of the Lake District. The route was incredibly scenic, with breathtaking views throughout the day, and it felt like every turn revealed another beautiful landscape. The stops were well planned and gave us enough time to wander around, take in the scenery, explore the local areas, and enjoy each location without feeling rushed. The bus was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained, which made the journey even more enjoyable. Our tour guide was wonderful, kind, attentive, and highly knowledgeable. He made everyone feel welcome, shared interesting information along the way, and clearly cared about ensuring that everyone had a great experience.

We were given the wrong time. Even though we got there early. So the tour started without us. It really put a damper on the day for us. I would recommend that you get your times sorted for all customers.
