On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll hear about Ålesund’s history from the Viking Age, through World War II and modern times, while enjoying several beautiful views.
Ålesund is a charming Art Nouveau town on Norway’s west coast. It was almost completely rebuilt after a great fire destroyed the town center in 1904.
The tour starts in front of Destinasjon Ålesund & Sunnmøre, the tourist office, and takes you along Kongens Gate Road. You’ll see striking views of the tiny Molja Lighthouse, Mount Aksla, and the Ålesund strait, which prove why the town was voted the most beautiful in Norway. As you stroll, you’ll see that this relatively small town has many surprises, with flower motif ornamentation weaving around the walls, and trolls, dragons, and gremlins popping up in surprising places. You’ll see plenty of stone houses with towers, spires, and peculiar gables. I’ll also show you Ålesund Church and the cruise pier before you reach the end of the tour in Ålesund City Park.

Margit Johnsen
You’ll pass by the statue of Margit Johnsen, a Norwegian war heroine honoured for her bravery during World War II. Please note that any costs related to visiting the area are not covered in this tour.
Molja Lighthouse
You’ll glimpse the Molja Lighthouse, a historic beacon that has stood at the entrance to Ålesund’s harbour since 1858. Please note that any costs related to visiting the area are not covered in this tour.

3.00When the app worked it was great, unfortunately the app closed during the tour and it wanted me to download again. Didn't want to take the time to find wifi. Plus the app did not track very well with my location.

2.00Unclear. Saai. But mss there is no more to tell. It is Jugend stil architecture and that’s it. There are some statues but yes. To build a tour around that now. Moreover, you could not see where you are (literally) - during the tour.

5.00Well explained, easy to follow. You can do it whenever you want and at your own pace. VoiceMap is really practical. Alesund is a charming town, this is a nice stroll to get to know it.
