What To Expect
Museum and Crypt of Capuchins Friars
Your first destination is the Capuchin Crypt. Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Here you will be free to explore hearing all the interesting details and the reasons behind such an unusual practice with your audio guide. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.
Catacombe Di Domitilla
Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.

5.00Even though we knew what the tour included, it was different to see all those bones in real life. A great experience and a nice tour for staying cool in the summer. Emiliano was an excellent host. Actually wish I’d signed up for his food tour too!

4.00The tour was interesting for not knowing much about the topic! The Crypts tour is self paced with a head set. Our guide gave us information before entering on which exhibits to stop and learn about. The Catacombs were very interesting, we would have enjoyed more time at it. Our guide was okay, it seemed to be more of a paycheck than a job he actually cared about.

5.00This tour is the perfect one to do in summer. Maria was always conscious of making sure we were weren’t in the sun too long. The first stop at the crypt ended with the group walking to a cooly air conditioned bus for the ride to the catacombs. The catacombs were refreshingly cool being so far underground. Special note: by Vatican law and because the Vatican controls to grounds, different tour guides will take over inside the catacombs. Don Sam was great. He was an actual priest. Be aware, there are no photos inside the catacombs. We went to the last church via bus as well. The tour ends a short distance from multiple Rome metro lines. It was a great half day tour!
