Experience the authentic flavors of Bali with a sanur Balinese Cooking Class and Traditional Market Tour, a cultural and culinary journey that takes you beyond the typical tourist experience. This immersive program allows you to explore local ingredients, learn traditional cooking techniques, and prepare classic Balinese dishes guided by an experienced local chef.
You’ll discover the secrets behind Bali’s rich flavors—aromatic galangal, fresh turmeric root, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, candle nuts, and palm sugar. You’ll learn how these ingredients are combined into Base Genep, Bali’s sacred spice paste used in many traditional recipes. This market visit is not just about shopping—it’s about understanding how food connects to Balinese culture, community, and spirituality.

Your journey begins at a lively traditional market in Uluwatu. Unlike tourist markets, this is where locals bargain, laugh, and select the freshest ingredients for their family kitchens and temple offerings. As you wander through colorful stalls, your guide introduces you to fragrant spices, tropical herbs, and unique Balinese ingredients that form the backbone of authentic island cuisine. After the market tour, you will head to the cooking venue where the chef will welcome you with a refreshing drink. The class begins with an introduction to traditional cooking tools and techniques, followed by a step-by-step demonstration before you start cooking your dishes. You will prepare a complete Balinese meal from scratch, learning how to grind spices, mix sauces, and balance flavors using traditional methods. After cooking, sit together and enjoy the delicious dishes you’ve prepared in a warm and friendly atmosphere. This shared meal is a perfect moment to relax, exchange stories, and celebrate your culinary achievement.

They hosted the cooking class just our booking - it was fantastic. We learn to make several dishes all of which were delicious - starting the two different types of soups ( we made the pastes for the different dishes from scratch) , following by chicken, satay , prawns , noodles , deep fried banana and coconut pancakes . I'm probably missing something but honestly a fantastic experience which I highly recommend ! Do not eat much before coming , there is so much tasty food . Fantastic hospitality - thank you to our chefs for the great experience . We will be cooking g these dishes back in London !
