Daniel is a true expert on Lalibela. He knows every corner of the rock-hewn churches in both church clusters, and his reputation is such that the priests greet him by name wherever he goes. In fact, his connection to Lalibela goes beyond professional expertise—he grew up here and, as a child, even played hide-and-seek inside one of the largest churches. Getting around Lalibela on your own is not as straightforward as it may seem. Local transportation is designed primarily for residents, and moving between the airport and the different churches can be challenging for visitors. Having someone waiting for you at the airport, organizing all the logistics, and guiding you through each church with rich historical, cultural, and religious explanations makes an enormous difference. 4.00A short but beautiful visit to Lalibela, to see the amazing orthodox churches. Daniel picked me up at the airport and transported to the hotel, which is a decent, clean with good wifi connection. Daniel was very knowledgeable on the history of these churches, and was a good source of information. I was hoping to have a more memorable Ethiopian meals, but there is hardly any choice and the focus was just visiting the churches. Try to go with a group of tourists/friends, so that the price is more affordable. Neverthless, overall the trip was worth it.

5.00Lalibela was absolutely incredible! Dan was a great guide, and the itinerary was well planned out — I liked that you see the first cluster on one day and the second cluster the next day. It was also really cool to experience Sunday church service back at St. George on the second day. The hotel was also fantastic with an amazing view. Highly recommend!

5.00We visited Lalibela in a group (4 adults and 3 children) and were very happy with the experience. We found Daniel through Civitatis, and in the end we contracted directly with him so we could adjust the trip to 2 days. It was flexible from the start and easy to coordinate. WhatsApp communication worked well in English, and during the trip we also had Solomon, who spoke Spanish, which made everything more comfortable. The accommodation at Sora Lodge Lalibela was very good: quiet, with good views and good service. We especially liked that the itinerary was not rigid and could be adapted on the go, including simple stops like the local market or some photo spots. A good option to organize the visit to Lalibela, especially if you are traveling as a group or with children.

5.00The experience has been great. Daniel was born and raised in Lalibela and knows perfectly every corner and every church, which are amazing. Lalibela is a special place, culturally and historically very interesting. In the mountain hicking we could see a more rural life and fantastic views of Lilabela, ending at Ashton Maryam Monastery. 5.00I have no words to describe the experience Daniel made us live... From the guide who was waiting for us to the invitation to his own family home to eat and drink the typical Ethiopian coffee so delicious. I take care of every detail and keep highlighting how flexible it always was with the prices and plans that were adapted to the whole family and every moment. If you hesitate when we return we will count on you again Daniel!! And of course with our dear Solomon....an endearing man full of wisdom...🙏🏼 THANK YOU 🫶🏽💚💛❤️

5.00I highly recommend Dan as a guide for visiting Lalibela! My partner and I spent three days exploring this incredible place with him, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we met him, we felt completely safe and well-cared for. Since Dan lives locally and knows the terrain inside out, his expertise was evident in every step of our journey. His professionalism shone through in the way he naturally adjusted his pace to match ours, making even the hike up the mountain feel pleasant despite the altitude. He guided us through the fascinating tunnels that connect the different churches and shared his deep knowledge of the site at every turn. What made the experience truly special, however, was his personal connection to Lalibela. Learning that one of his relatives is actually a priest at one of the incredible rock-hewn churches added a unique and emotional layer to our visit. An unforgettable experience!
