Homenagem as vitimas da Inquisicao em Portugal
The institution of the Inquisition in Portugal dates from 1536 and lasted for almost 300 years in Portugal. It was largely responsible for the decline of the first global empire in the world that Portugal had maintained during the 15th and 16th centuries. The Inquisition was responsible for the death of many innocent victims and the greatest symbol of intolerance and religious extremism in the history of Portugal. It was in Praça do Giraldo that most of the victims were burned alive in the horrible acts of faith. The court of the inquisition of Évora was the deadliest of the 4 courts that existed in Portugal of this tenebrous institution.

This was a wonderful private walking tour. Our guide was a PhD student at the university ofEvora and he met us at our hotel, which was really convenient. We walked all over the old city and had a wonderful comprehensive tour that included details about the history of Evora, the University, the churches, the Chapel of bones, the temple of Diana and he was also able to recommend some wonderful wines and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed this 2 1/2 hour tour and would highly recommend it.

Wonderful, informative walking tour of Evora with our friendly, very knowledgeable guide Joao. He adapted the tour and his commentary to our interests, which we really appreciated. Evora is a beautiful town, and well worth a visit. Less crowded than Lisbon and Sintra. One note, we took the train from Lisbon and found out later the bus would have been more reliable (our train was delayed an hour, which is not uncommon) and much much cheaper. Take my advice and go to Evora, and definitely book this walking tour! You get so much more out of the experience than if you just wander around on your own.

We have had many tours now in our adventure and expedition through and down Portugal for 3 weeks. Paulo was the most informed about this tour than most of them. I feel like we got the most out of this experience and I am very grateful. The pace was good. He was personable and repeated as needed due to his heavy accent without concern. Lots of extra tips andtidbits of history as well.

What a great experience! Paulo was our guide and a wealth of information plus he added some fun gests! I would suggest requesting him for a private tour, well worth it. There is a lot of information he provided you can't get on your own, so very pleased we booked and got him as our guide.

We opted for a private tour of Evora. Paulo was a fantastic guide. His brain is like a walking encyclopedia. So much knowledge was shared in the 3 hours we spent together. Highly recommend this tour if you’re interested in learning about the history and culture of Evora. Walking was not too strenuous here. Paulo also recommended and made a dinner reservation for us at his friends restaurant called Piparoza Boutique that was delicious. Obrigda Paulo!

Evora is a city rich with history - and our guide João (who’s a local History PhD student) did a wonderful job of helping it come alive. He was engaging and so knowledgeable - did a great job involving our 11 & 14 year old kids too! I’d definitely recommend a guided tour for evora to maximize your experience - and I have only wonderful things to say about our guide and the tour!
