Yellowstone Hiking Guides safely leads hiking groups into the Lamar Valley on a wildlife viewing day hike tour.
Our guides are well versed in Yellowstone's unique wildlife. Safety and fun are our top priorities. Regularly, we spot wolves, bears, and other rare wildlife from the trail in the backcountry of Yellowstone.
Our tours are off the beaten path, traveling on bison trails for the majority of the hike. Most tour providers in Yellowstone spend the majority of the day on the road, or very close to the road. Our guides take you into the backcountry for unique views of the Lamar Valley that you cannot see from the roadway.
Frequently, our guests tell us that they could not do this hike on their own through the massive bison herd and unpredictable wildlife.

What To Expect
Lamar Valley
This six-mile tour through the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park is the best place to hike and view wildlife in North America. Your expert guide will safely lead you to wildlife viewing locations and scenic vistas that you cannot see from the road. Your guide will help you navigate the large bison herds. We sometimes spot wolf and bear, at a distance. Your guide will carry a scope for viewing these animals safely. We also see pronghorn, elk, moose, badger, ground squirrels, and an array of birds. We take a break for a picnic lunch with river or valley views.

5.00This was a fantastic experience. Our guide Bri was very knowledgeable and personable, sharing fun facts about the Valley and animals as we hiked around bison herds, spotted pronghorn antelope, but alas, saw no bear. We’d highly recommend this experience and Bri as your guide.

5.00We had a great time! The guides were amazing and very patient with our children's questions. They took frequent breaks and made safety the top priority. We got to see bison, coyotes, pronghorns, ground squirrels, badgers and more. Highly recommend this for first timers to Yellowstone!
Five hour Lamar Valley hike.

5.00This five hour, five mile hike was $182 per person. My sister and I went with 8 other people and two guides. Everyone was helpful. We had a beautiful warm day. We saw pronghorn, Uinta ground squirrels, marmots, lots of bison, a badger, an eagle. The guides took hiker abilities into consideration, finding an easier, flatter route for my sister and I so we wouldn't have to climb another hill. Got us safely past a herd of over 200 bison. I highly recommend Bob and Parker, the guides. They were very knowledgeable about the area and what they didn't know, they looked up. My sister and I are in our 60's and not in the best of shape and they took that into consideration. It was really an amazing experience.

5.00Our day hike with Bob Clark was amazing. We saw so much wildlife! Additionally, Bob is well versed in the geology, vegetation and history of Yellowstone. My wife and I highly recommend him.

5.00My 2 young adult kids and I thoroughly enjoyed our guided hike with Emily Jo and Maddie! When I asked the kids at the end of our vacation about favorites from our trip - they both immediately said it was this hike. Emily Jo was a wealth of knowledge about the area and the animals. She gave us a safety talk at the start which calmed my grizzly bear phobia and also educated me about safety around Bison. We saw dozens of bison and pronghorn antelopes, as well as ground squirrels, marmots, a badger, and a grizzly (happily across the river!) We also heard wolves howling and learned about the 2 nearby packs. We started the hike with coffee and tea in the parking lot and then had a bountiful and delicious lunch mid-hike. If we return to Yellowstone, we will definitely go another adventure with Yellowstone Hiking Guides!
