What To Expect
Marathon Lake
Start the morning tour by heading towards the reputed local lake of Marathon, with an impressive marble dam constructed in 1929. The lake served as the main supplier of water for Athenian citizens until 1959. You may walk along the dam for a majestic view and enjoy a lunch break at the local café by the lake. Head back to Athens while following a road through green landscapes till you reach the city again.
Archaeological Museum of Marathon
Our next stop is at the archaeological Museum of Marathon. The museum houses five thematic exhibition rooms, a patio and a large storage basement. Its collections come directly from excavations in the surrounding area and include items from the Neolithic period to the late Roman era, the most famous being from the Tomb of the Athenians and the prehistoric burial grounds.

5.00Our driver Jannis (John) was very interesting and knowledgeable about both historic and current day events, we really appreciated his commentary! However, the historic sites are very limited as there are very few ruins left.
