The extensive campus Clementinum (Klementinum) is one of the largest building complexes in Europe and was originally built as a Jesuit college. As part of the sightseeing route, it is possible to look into the hall of the Baroque Library, which is often described as the most beautiful in the world. It was completed in 1727, and its still open collection includes over 27,000 volumes of mostly foreign-language theological literature. The next stop on the route is the Meridian Hall, where there are original astronomical instruments used to determine noon. The tour ends with the Astronomical Tower, which with its height of 68 meters guarantees an unforgettable view of the center of Prague and Prague Castle. On the day of your Historical Tram Line 42 ride, you can take advantage of a 20% discount on one of the Prague towers after presenting the ticket. Nearest tram stop is Právnická fakultra stop.
Novomlynska Vodarenska Vez
New Mill Water Tower (Novomlýnská vodárenská věž) was built in the Baroque style in 1658 on what remained of the original Renaissance tower, destroyed by a flood in 1655. It supplied water to the lower New Town of Prague and served its original purpose until 1877. The Tower has undergone a complete renovation, and now houses an exhibition about Prague's fires in the past and a history of Prague's fire-fighters. On the day of your Historical Tram Line 42 ride, you can take advantage of a 20% discount on one of the Prague towers after presenting the ticket. Nearest tram stop is Dlouhá třída stop.

We enjoyed our ride on the old tram. We were, however disappointed with the fact that there was no commentary which meant you had no idea where you were and what was at each stop. There was an app however it was a paid app and we didn't want to sign up for it.

The older trams can give you a jolt as they set off and stop, but it’s all good fun! Staff on board are very helpful with their knowledge of Prague.

From stop 4 (castle) Strahov monastery. Visit much less frequented than the Clementinum and just as extraordinary. Thank you!

We wanted to see Prague Castle again and did not want to climb the stairs so we took this tram. Happy because the ride is fast. Convenient because it is possible to get on and off this tram with the same ticket knowing that there are 20 stops to visit. If you have time to visit Prague, I recommend taking this Tram as it allows you to visit the main points of the city. We loved this tram on line 42.

You need to get a map of the tram route in advance and decide what you want to see to make the best of the hop-on hop-off options. For anyone who loves vintage transport this is a great experience. However, it is NOT a guided tour with a commentary. Staff are very pleasant and helpful but the app that they advise you to download is entirely unsuited to providing a commentary; for large parts of the journey it says nothing, then it identifies three sights at once, trying to make it play appropriate information was extremely hard work and impossible to do and look at the sights. You also have to remember to cancel the app (not just delete it) to avoid an expensive, unrefundable subscription payment.

It was fun riding around in the old tram cars. They have several different cars ranging from the early 1900’s to the 2000’s. I loved the one with the wooden benches!
