Guns Manufacture

Step inside one of Japan’s oldest surviving gunsmith facilities. This rare Edo-period workshop and residence offers a literal window into the world of the master craftsmen who armed the samurai of Japan. What You Will See and Do: The Original Forge: Explore the authentic workshop where Sakai’s famous matchlock guns were forged. You’ll see the original tools, bellows, and hearths preserved exactly as they were centuries ago. The Master’s Residence: Walk through the attached living quarters of the gunsmith family. It’s a beautifully preserved example of traditional merchant-class architecture. Bullet Holes and History: Look for the actual bullet marks on the pillars. Rare Artifacts: View a collection of intricate matchlocks, blueprints, and period documents that reveal the high-tech engineering of the 16th and 17th centuries.
