Park and National Palace of Pena
The Pena National Palace is like a sacred jewel that crowns the Serra de Sintra. The surrounding park, in tune with the palace's fairy-like character, awakens emotions of mystery and discovery. In its corners, the eyes are lost in charm.
Quinta da Regaleira
It is in this painterly setting that we find, just outside the historic center of Sintra, Quinta da Regaleira. Designed and built during the late 1800s, it reflects the sensitivity and cultural, philosophical and scientific interests of the principal owner, António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), combined with the virtuosity of the Italian architect-scenographer Luigi Manini (1848-1936 ). The culture and creativity of these two personalities resulted in an eclectic-revivalist architectural ensemble, with a particular focus on the Manueline and Renaissance styles. Sintra is a lovely village, full of history and worth visiting. Cabo da Roca was a quick stop but we really enjoyed the view. Ultimately, it was a tour that we loved and will certainly repeat.
